This. I'm glad I got to see his career happen, as in the future when young bucks see his record and thing "oh he sucked", I'll be able to vouch that he truly carried a old school fighter's record. One that consisted of numerous tough opponents with little notice, while almost always being competitive no matter what.
Man that would be some **** if Corley managed to pick up another trinket, and I don't think it's that crazy to think, even at this point.
Oh yea for those that don't know the specifics, Corley finally was on the good end of a close decision last night - 96-90, 94-92(x2). Both fighters tasted the canvas in what sounds like a very good fight. Reading on the fight, both fighters came in tremendous shape, and gave a tremendous effort.
This upset was coming. I'm surprised that Provodnikov fight wasn't discussed here. It was a dood fight that could go either way(the scorecards dont tell the story), I remember scoring it only 1 point for Provodnikov, but it could easily go to Corley. Many respectable Russian boxing observers had Corley winning, who was clearly the better boxer but was outworked by younger opponent. Not to mention he lost questionable decisions to Fedchenko and Gorges and gave nightmares to Marcos.
If you're going to try to make a non-Mayweather thread be about Mayweather, how about full disclosure on the topic? PBF himself acknowledged that Chop was one of his best opponents to date at the time (ironically, the two toughest nights of Floyd's career from his own mouth were against guys with so-called "journeyman" records: Corley & Augustus) and gave him utmost respect as a fighter and as a man. Also got rocked by him (as did Cotto at his optimal weight in his absolute prime). Corley is worthy of :respect and gets it from just about everybody in the game. It's therefore a bit silly for some knucklehead armchair pugilist to write him off as a B fighter.
Thanks for the input. I didn't see the Provodnikov fight, but read is was closer than the scorecards read. I'll make sure to watch that fight, and post my insight on it later here.
Bailey will KO Mike Jones, then Berto who will defeat Ortiz in the rematch. Then Pac who by then has KO'd Fraud. Corley will have been on a five fight win streak at welter setting up Bailey vs Corley 3 in late 2013 HBO PPV :rasta
