I've come around with DJ tonight. Been a bit of a hater of his for the last year or so, but he deserves props for consistently winning.:couch:

I'd rate a lot of the greats above him. GSP, Fedor, Aldo, Cruz, Edgar... And they did what they did against much better competition. DJ is a big fish in a small pond, he's great at what he does but he's doing against less than stellar opposition most of the time. Glad he's starting to get credit, but calling him the greatest champion of all time or the greatest all rounder based on his dominating one of the weakest divisions in MMA is just ridiculous.

I've been a bigger fan of him lately too... He's turned into a great finisher as well.

You're misrepresenting my point. I'm absolutely 100% not saying DJ is the GOAT or has the best resume or even fights in the best division (although it's not as bad as your making it out to be). I'm talking from strictly a pure all round skills perspective. Not to denigrate any one fighter you just listed but they all have or had holes in one or more aspects of fighting whether it was their striking/strike defense, footwork, elusiveness, wrestling/TDD, grappling & transitions that DJ just doesn't have.

No I completely get what you and everyone else in the MMA media, establishment and many fans are saying. I think everyone is a bit too buzzed and isn't thinking straight. DJ is great but no ones perfect, who's to say holes wouldn't show in his game if he went back up to 135 again where the top competition is a lot better? He's a big fish in a small pond. Outside the top 5 the division is one of the most woeful in all of MMA. Even worse considering that Dodson and Lineker moved up to 135 again.

Mighty Mouse is nasty in there.

I thought the ref ****ed up in the Souza fight. If it wasn't stopped during the ground and pound where a few landed but most missed, why stop it when he turns and tries to stand up, while not getting hit?

That Karate girl was kinda hot, but she got her arse whooped. He eyeballs almost popped out of her head at the end.

It's a situation where it isn't the guys fault he fights in a shitty weight class. And even more unfortunate for Johnson, is that he is a shrimp, what is he like 5'2? So when he moves up, he is already at a significant size disadvantage. That being said, in a pound for pound sense, if you could make him the same mass, as the other guys mentioned, he'd hold his own. He has a hell of a gas tank, Aldo doesn't. He's even more of a technician than GSP. Edgar always loses against his best opponents etc. If Johnson moves up and beats Garbrandt or Dillashaw, or they move down, and he beats them, I would have no problem putting him in the conversation. He is a much better fight now, then he was when he lost to Cruz.

Completely agree. Souza was in a bad spot but was still intelligently defending himself and could have eaten a couple of more shots before Yamasaki stopped it. Souza was in just as bad of a spot against Romero and he recovered enough to win the next two rounds and was unlucky to have not gotten out of there with at least a draw.

I agree on most counts. Just think some are getting a bit ahead of themselves and should just cool it down a bit.

You've made some decent points but we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one. For whatever reason I don't see a promotional push to make this happen but I would definitely like to see him return to the BW division and fight for the belt. I think if he could avoid the power he would make Garbrant look silly. He's clearly a much improved fighter than during his WEC and early UFC days.

Is he as good as the version of Wanderlei that sprawled and brawled Quinton Jackson into defeat?

Just watched Jacare Vs Whittaker. Bisping would have had a decent chance against Jacare in hindsight.

The stoppage was questionable but not incorrect imo. I'd have liked to see what happened when Whittaker took Jacare's back.

Would he have just unleashed bombs on the back of his head or would Jacare have reversed position?

Whitaker definitely deserves the victory bit a rematch could be decent here.

He has quite a ways to go before he can be considered "better" than that Wanderlei Silva. But yeah he look great last night.
