Dempey had some truly bad performances

    That's an interesting statement, and I wonder if you are being honest regarding it. Call it learned apprehension regarding your posts :lol:

    I think you may be correct with this one... but never quote me on it!

    What report smarts? Two different newspapers (semi-local San Jose, California, and local Fort Worth, Texas), different writers reporting on three different fights, describe pretty much the same things happening, Meehan having terrible defense or pretty much lacking any such skills whatsoever.

    Lewis had 16 or less fights when he met those guys, and was more or less winning against most of them, within the first four rounds prior to stopping or decisioning them. Dempsey had 36 fights prior to facing Meehan, and not only struggled against him in one fight, but in most of their 5 meetings.

    Mike Weaver was a former heavyweight champion, and Ocasio was a former cruiser champ, and ex-heavy contender when Lewis fought them with very few fights. Meehan was nobody when he fought Dempsey in all their meetings.

    I'm afraid you're comparing apples to oranges here.
