    Morning mcvey.

My point was that Sharkey probably could've gotten up, but was opting for a disqualification. This is all speculation of course, and the knockdown is legit (if not tainted), but he doesn't appear to me like a man who is separated from his senses, like
    Walcott and Layne were.

Something else. If you put so much stock in quotes, what do you make of Dempsey's own words that he usually needed several knockdowns to finish his man, while Marciano didn't?

The bill brennan kayo was not a one punch kayo. it was a combination kayo. impressive, but not a one punch kayo like marciano did to layne and walcott.

The Ring issue of May 1950 described Rex Layne as having a "Cocunut like Noggin"

there is a Dempsey quote that Marciano hit harder with one punch then Dempsey ever could. Dempsey was also a hard puncher but Marciano KO'd some durable guys and early in his career ...Marciano was a solid 15 rd fighter...there was no evidence of late one punch power with Dempsey he was more of a early starter

I cant be arsed to sit down and watch it right now ,so I accept your word Suzie, one thing, Dempsey hit Brennan hard enough that the power twisted him around and he broke his ankle as he dropped.

I think with these two sluggers it's simply too close to call. I feel that Dempsey's left hook was better than Marciano's but Marciano's right hand was better than Dempsey's. Just for the record let me say that Joe Louis was the best punching HW champ of all time and that the Louis who fought Marciano was a shell of his former self and shouldn't be included as one of Rocky's best KO's. Layne and Walcott yes....Louis no!!

    "Louis . . . shouldn't be included as one of Rocky's best KO's."

Louis hadn't been stopped in 15 years while fighting the best in the world. He was certainly going back but there is no reason to consider him easy to knock out.

marciano beating old louis is as good as tyson beating holmes or lewis beating tyson. it's nowhere near peak v peak. imagine a peak louis v marciano, a peak holmes v tyson or a peak tyson v lewis then we are talking.............
