I hesitate to step in on this, because it appears to be based on bad feelings, but it seems to me to be over-the-top to hit a man for racism when what he did was actually a kind and decent gesture.

Yeah, Dempsey seemed to have a liking for Layne for the reasons you mentioned. He said he was the most promising upcoming HW.

If a fighter doesn't goto a neutral corner it's the referee's job to enforce it. The count doesn't start until then as it's not giving a fighter a chance to get up. Hence why Ali-Liston 2 is a bad decision

    Shamus,
If u documented blacks getting fuked over starting with the beginning of slavery, 1620s until the Tusgeegee experiment 1972 u would need about 100 or so Library Of Congresses' to handle matters of paperwork.
This seems to trip you up a bit.

It trips me up in the least. In fact, I have read quite a lot on the matter and feel it needs to be an important facet of education in the US... in so far as it should be constructive toward the future resolution of lingering problems, not as a blueprint for historical witch trials.

One man's actions in deciding a fight 60+ years, wherein there is no overtly racist justification for it, do not constitute racism. Dempsey was a bad ref, plain and simple. And the ref being the one decider in a fight is a system which is thankfully been abandoned.

I think Dempsey was a decent ref, but BAD judge.

SLAKKA, sorry to interject...I have seen racism against blacks since the 1940s...No doubt, and having close black school friends, It hurt me to see this practice those days. Sure did...But partiallity to one's race runs BOTH ways, and I know it is not politically correct to cite that whites voted for Obama by app. 55 % in the last election, whilst the black electorate vote
about NINETY FIVE % for OBAMA, or any black politician...So Sl, are the black electorate so much smarter to vote overwhelmingly for a black politician or truly don't they also have their own bias and prejudice...?
I hate bigotry and love the underdog, but I hate hypocrisy just as much.

    'Witch hunt', he says.

I'm not "Cotton Mather" here, my friend, because I made no accusation. I said and stand by my discomfort with some of things Dempsey said and did. You're the one making accusations and waving a torch like a one-man lynch mob chasing leprechauns.
