Probably one round, and reports say he rocked Dempsey. He didn't have any trouble landing until he hurt his hand/wrist. I did a complete film review of this fight not so long ago here, I might bump it later.

Carpienter wasn't partially elusive nor did he take a good punch, so even if he weighed 168 pounds, you can't compare him to Greb, I'll let the top Jack Dempsey scribes comment, but his best came very early in his title run, he tailed off a bit later, meaning Greb's would not be facing the same guy who fought Carpentier.

Do you at least agree that this fight should have happened?

No not really, the Wills fight is the one that should have happened.
If they wanted to push their claims why didn't Wills and Greb fight each other?
