I'm not that worried about criticising Jack. I've got some articles that open up his legend a bit but feel that enough has already been debated back and forth for peeps to form a decent opinion one way or another.

Are we talking about the loaded gloves fight with Willard where Max Kellerman claimed to have heard some films show metal falling out of Dempsey’s gloves?

Perhaps Janitor is referring to Bert Sugar's claim that Dempsey can be seen out of the ring for quite some time vs Fripo on South American films.

 

Dempsey got his brother Joe to stand in for him in the Miske and Carpentier fights, and his brother Jeff to fight Gibbons and Firpo for him.

 

When asked his secret of success Dempsey said" youv'e got to be able to take it,and youv'e got to be able to give it".I assumed he was talking about punching!
