My thoughts: Until round 12, Gibbons was more active than I had previously thought. From round 12 onwards Gibbons was, except for some spurts (esp. towards the end of the 14th round) mostly defensive. I'm thinking Dempsey won about a dozen rounds, give or take a round -- didn't score the rounds, just my general impression. Gibbon's got his left over a few times, but Dempsey wasn't more than moderately/momently fazed. Can't complain about Jack's stamina. When you just see a few rounds of the fight the 15th seems a bit muggy; seeing all the fight, you realize that Jack generally was the aggressor, and largely was making the fight from round 12 onwards -- considering this, his stamina makes a good impression. The crowd really seemed to be pulling for Gibbons -- a lot of people stood if Gibbons got a good blow across.

Jack sometimes spins Gibbons, kidney and rabbit punching his challenger. Of course, the other side of the coin is that Tommy's putting a life-or-death clench on Jack's left. Foul hittings always going to draw more jeer's than foul clinching. Both fouls, though.
I'm not sure they are fouls. Rabbit punches and kidney punches could be agreed to be allowed. I think that's what they sometimes used to call "straight Queensberry rules" ... anything above the belt is legit target. Also, even when "kidney punches" were expressly banned, I think they were often refering to hitting with the forearm or the side of the fist as fighters sometimes do in the clinches. Knuckle-area-to-kidney punches were still allowed. Of course this all needed to be clarified before the match in question. Different interpretations of the rules, different interpretations of abuses of the rules.
I sometimes hear Dempsey refered to as having 'struggled' in this fight to out-point Gibbons; that hardly seems justified, unless 'struggled' is meant so broadly as to be synonomous with 'exerted himself'.
Amazing stamina from Dempsey. Look how he's galloping around high up on his toes for a full 15 rounds. In the midday sun as well.
Gibbons very smart and crafty, Dempsey had great stamina, Gibbons fought more of a survivors fight but many can learn from his grab, move outside, inside fight....Dempsey was ferocious
