Almost every major heavyweight has been cut at some point in their career, but which were never cut? Particularly interesting, in my opinion, are heavyweights like Oscar Bonavena or Evander Holyfield, who didn't cut in spite of taking a lot of punishment at various points in their career.

I dont know about never ,but Ali apart from his fights with Foster and Holmes rarely cut ,also Dempsey ,who puffed up around the eyes yet rarely shed blood.

Did George Foreman cut? I know he swelled a bit and has had his face looking mangled, but I don't know about blood. Also interesting note about Holyfield, when I think about it its true, I've never seen him cut, he did sweel a bit though, aftert he first Bowe fight his eye was swollen **** and he looked a bit battered. Ali was only ever cut against Foster and he didn't swell either except against Frazier the first time. Truly a face made for boxing.

I think Lewis was only cut once during the Klitschko fight, though i vaguely remember him being cut by Holyfields third glove as well.

I think Dempsey was cut against Tunney, read it a while back but i'm not sure about it. Unfortunately, film is not clear enough to clear this one up.

As far as i know, McCall has never been cut or even bruised. That man is just inhumane. Chuvalo could take a punch as good as him, but his head was usually swolled to twice it's size while you wouldn't even be able to tell from a picture of McCall whether that was right before or after a fight.

I can't recall Louis being cut either though again, film might have hidden it. He was marked pretty badly by Marciano but not cut...... i think.

Dempsey was cut vs Tunney. The film subtitles clearly states Dempsey was cut over the right eye.

You mean when Ali wasn't cut, he was rarely cut? Pah! I know boxers who were NEVER cut except when they were cut.

That's a good point; to think I only put him in the title to get attention.

He was cut in the Mike Weaver fight, and as you suggest he was cut in the Holyfield fight. He was also nicked in the Tyson fight, I think.

McCall is cheating, since he travelled back in time after every fight to every point that he was hit by a significant punch, thus making it seem as if he couldn't be affected. Hence why he was never cut, rocked or swollen.

I'm sure Louis was cut at some point, but I can't remember when. In fact, I think he wasn't, but that somehow he never developed a reputation for being hard to cut.

Were Max Baer, Larry Holmes, Ingemar Johanssen, Ray Mercer or Brian Nielsen (stretching the definition of a notable heavyweight, but he certainly took a lot of punishment) ever cut? :think

The only time that I can think of where Foreman was cut was in sparring just before the Rumble in the Jungle, when he was cut so badly (by a headbutt, I think) that he really shouldn't have been cleared to fight. He was kept in the country against his will by the Zairean government.

Judging by the Foster fight, Ali had a perfect face for boxing, just not perfect skin.

Just last week i was wondering if McCall has the best chin in heavyweight history. I know it's tough to sort, but his exploits are out of this world. He has all that sparring with Tyson too. The Lewis shots. He might have the best chin i've ever seen at any weight.

Why is it that white boxers seeminly cut more then black fighters?

I have seen the Weaver fight and don't remember a cut, but i'll take your word on it. Quite remarkable actually, considering how little Weaver got through.

Certainly considering the fact that they used 6 oz gloves and his large amount of fights against ranked contenders, this is something remarkable.

I read Baer was badly cut against Lou Nova. Never seen Nielsen and Johansson cut. Mercer was cut against Klitschko (a hard left hook off the jab), though to be fair that was when he was 40 years old and after 5 rounds taking an incredible amount of punishement:

Brian Nielsen was cut in fights against Tyson and Carlos deLeon (bad). Ingemar Johansson was cut against Bygraves, Cavicchi and Patterson 3rd

I read a book, dempsey wrote many years ago and Jack said he was soaking his hands and face in Brine to toughen it since he was 7 years old, when he 1st wanted to be like John L. Sullivan

Holyfield was cut against Ray Mercer. Infact they almost stopped the fight.

I personally think there's nothing you can really put between Chuvalo and McCall in terms of chin. Yes, McCall probably withstood more hard punches (if we take all the sparring with Tyson into account) but Chuvalo was never hurt (the closest was in the Foreman fight, where he was hit so hard with a left hook that he almost left his feet, but he was not hurt), while McCall was hurt against Seldon.

As for overall durability, I think McCall has to pick the award. He was stopped once in a long career and that was due to a mental breakdown where he was not significantly hurt (just completely dispirited).
