somthing like that I'm pretty sure could be easily dismissed. It wasn't even strength he beat firpo on, it was handspeed. he just proved too quick for him.
There's lots of great posts on here. I wonder how many posters who are still here have changed/maintained their opinions. Choklab is still the same lol
Dempsey and Liston's best work came pre-title. Liston beat C. Williams, Machen, Folley and Patterson...but... Dempsey's 1918 was special. 20-1 (17 KO'S). First to drop n' stop Bill Brennan. First to KO Battling Levinsky. Smashes #1 contender Fred Fulton in 20 seconds. Defeats a healthy Billy Miske (who recently edged Harry Greb). Avenges the Flynn faux-par. And a sprinkling of quick wins. The Mauler's reign wasn't great but his resume is solid. With Tommy Gibbons and Jack Sharkey he may have more depth than Sonny. As for the other two... Frazier has the best single win. Holyfield has more depth (and scars). What do you like?
Holyfield is clearly number one, Frazier is clearly number two. I don't know what the Dempsey-brigade have been smoking to have him so high, but I can't see it no matter how hard I try. He just isn't that level, hell, the third best here has TWO first round KOs over a guy better than him. Holyfield > Frazier > Liston > Dempsey H2H is an entirely different matter. I'd pick Liston to beat Frazier and Dempsey, with little hesitation. I'd also pick him over Holyfield, but I can see both winning that one. Frazier-Holyfield would be an all-time classic, and it's a 50/50 IMO, but more time I go with Fraizer's pace and ferocity to win. Dempsey loses to all three.
Resume Liston/Frazier Dempsey Holyfield Their ranking as my favorite fighters: Frazier (1) Liston (3) Holyfield (4) Dempsey (9) H2H (against each other) Liston 3-0 Dempsey 2-1 Frazier 1-2 Holyfield 0-3
