You hear all the stories that Miske was near death but his record does not show it ... he went on to fight for a few more years and did very well ... was he very sick for the fight and then went back into remission ? Was it possible Dempsey was in his prime at this time and simply too good ? It's the only one of Dempsey's last nine fights without footage and very hard to get a definitive account ...

Read Clay Moyle's bio. Miske was in bad shape, wasn't keeping down food and had to cancel sparring the final week. If I recall correctly (always a BIG if) he lost a ton on a failed auto dealership and needed to set his family for after his impending demise. And yes, the condition did go come and go in severity but was on a definite course downward.

Didn't Dempsey say he knew there was something wrong with Miske when he beat him so much easier?

Also, according to Moyle, Dempsey finished Billy with a particularly brutal cheap shot. Just keep things trill.

I'll reread it for sure but I feel there is more to it .. the man fought over twenty more times very well .. as far as the cheap shot, I forgot about it .. Dempsey was nasty for sure in that ring ,,

Dempsey was nasty in sparring too.

You stepped in the ring with him at your peril.
