Just fishing for some feedback. We know the young Dempsey destroyed the old Willard, but what if the Dempsey of the first Tunney fight in 1926, then 31 with a three year layoff met the Willard of the Johnson fight, then 33 and at the top of his game. To the finish What do you see happening?
Jess was better than a lot of people give him credit for, but Based on his 1927 fight with Sharkey i'd still take Jack to win. It shows how good Tunney was to dominate even a 26-27 Dempsey.
Fight to the finish, prime Willard would outlast the '26 Dempsey. Probably KO him somewhere between 15th and 19th round. Over 10 or 15 rounds it could come down to a close decision, either way.
I not sure the 1927 fight vs Sharkey is a good ideal on how he handle Willard in a fight to the finish under 1900's rules. Dempsey was loseing that fight, and pretty much had to cheap shot his way to a victory there. I think Willard beats the 1927 Dempsey by knockout in rounds 15-20 about. Dempsey didnt have the legs for a 20 round fight by that time.
