Guys possesed much more raw strenght back then. Growing up from an early age there was no machinery and everything was done/lifted by hand....Maga already gave his two cents on that subject and its that Wlads pulls out the ol anaconda routine and wins by hugging.
That's the sensible option but I wonder what his pick would be if he could envision jack breaking free. If jack does have head movement that atleast equals Brewster and he can take a shot as well then I'd probably pick him here but I'm not sure he does.
If Dempsey could break out of Wlad's clinches time and again with ease (something I find hard to imagine myself) then of course it tips the balance more in his favour. As does an enforcement of the no neutral corner rule. I'd still pick Wlad to outbox his arse even with that scenario in mind, though if by some miracle Dempsey were to knock Wlad down then his chances rapidly and drastically improve.
I disagree. Jack knocked out evey meaningful shw of his era and that at least opens up discussion as to who would win. I think wlad has a better reign and resume though. Undecided if his achievement of unifying surpasses jacks reputation as a man killer.
I'm watching him some more and without fail he broke every clinch. He has very quick hands inside and once he broke for a second he got his shots off. I was hoping to see more of this great movement but his strength impresses me. I do favour wlad to keep him outside his jab and catch him coming in with a right but if someone can convince me his head movement and chin is atleast the equal of brewsters I'd switch sides.
Excissive holding to the extent Wlad does is illegal, if he knew anything about box he'd know that....This is one of the reasons he doesn't fight in US anymore....Jack controls the distance better than anybody Wlad has ever fought and would leap off with shots when Wlad least expected it.
Wlad is safety first, takes no chances, suspect chin, questionable stamina, only has the 1-2, flat flooted, can't even fight the top opposition in a very weak era, somehow he beats Marciano,Frazier,Dempsey,Liston and the other ATGS.
It isn't illegal though he never gets called on it. The converse is true though wlad controls distance better than anyone jack as fought and he'll constantly have that jab in his face. Due to jack's success against bigger men I enjoy this particular debate, but I think ultimately the truth is we dont have the data required. The film of jack is mostly poor quality aside from his drubbing to tunney. Some are willing to make the leap of faith regarding his abilities, I'm not sure i am.
Of course its illeagal. Do you know the rules of boxing? I know somw people dont, but i thought you did......Watch the first round against Brewster, he was warned 3 times in just over a minute...He was deducted a point against Haye for holding to much in round 7......Jesse Ferguson lost to Tyson by DQ for holding to much but was later changed to tko......Its legal to tie up and fight out of the clinch. Wlad hugs and does not let go till the ref moves the opponent to a safe distance.
What I mean by not being illegal is it's a bendable rule he will always get away with. He's always gonna clinch and I don't ever envision any ref disqualifying him.
Yes, he bends the rules of boxing in Germany so he can have the fight the way he wants it, just like Ottke did , and is most likey to be forgotten in time just like Ottke is.... Boxing insiders are aware of all this and the k2 slave contracts which is why i dont think he'll ever be inducted into the hall of fame.
No long reigning hw champ will ever be forgotten. The slave contracts are stupid though, forces everyone to go the mando route. I have no issue with mandatories, I do like the concept, I just wish the voluntary defences would be atleast name opponents.
Ottke went unbeaten, something Wlad cant claim, and was rated higher than Calzaghe... He is forgotten....Fighting Pineata now and whoever next will certinly make him a shoe-in for the hall of shame.
