Terrific combination. I thought Dempsey made the slight adjustment of looking for right hands over Tunney's low left in their second fight, which sets up the knockdown as seen here. The first fight was better overall but the second fight had more drama in the last three rounds of the fight, despite a dull start. Tunney comes back to stun Dempsey several times in rounds 9 and 10. Poor quality video of the 10th round: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrlsR_0vYXs[/ame]
look how theyre fighting in the 10th round amazing. They look more energized than Frazier vs Ali and as for the upload...its from a bluray tyson movie. All of you have probably seen it. I will upload Ali knocking Williams out in 1080p, as well as Marciano KOing Walcott, in the near future.
What I found amazing about this though the viewing is poor, is that the whole round is not close up. I never saw Dempsey Tunney II round 10 non close up. My copy is close up in the round.
Great clip. Dempsey was kinda past it, but he still showed a lot of heart, taking a bit of a beating from Tunney but still coming on each round in both fights. It was awesome to see a flash of the old Dempsey magic, and Tunney displayed serious toughness and resilience to get up from that and take back control of the fight. He just had much the better footwork and jab, and Jack was too slow to catch him - the one time he did, didn't quite have enough to put iron-chinned Tunney away. If he'd gone back to his corner, who knows? I think this fight credits both boxers, a bit like a Fight of the first half of the Century.
How good is that footage. Does anyone know whether any of the fights from this era have been restored like that ?
The small clip is in pretty good viewing lol. The complete fight is also in great viewing also. I never consider it bad. Its great, you can see the flow and movement and eveything, but its not perfect like the HD clip is.
As an interesting aside, when Gene Tunney knocked Jack Dempsey down in that fight, Gene never went anywhere near a neutral corner and yet the count continued uninterrupted until Jack got up.
My issue with this fight is not so much the long count (irrelevant) as the fact that the reff did not enforce the same policy for both fighters.
well im sure evryone knows the story that the guy was supposed to have been working for the mob, jack wanted to part of the mob in his fights, tunney had other views.
Damn, the left hook is devastating. Tunney was lucky to have his head still attached to them there shoulders.
