Have you read any of the articles sited in this thread? Have you looked at the title defenses against Greb victims? I can post as many articles as you please with contemporary writers calling for the fight. There is nothing but evidence that Dempsey avoided Greb and chose softer marks.

The fact that Dempsey improved on his showing the next day, in another 3 round session, bodes well for his chances in a longer fight, imo.
If this sparring actually means anything, which it doesn't really.

Maybe $60,000 was not enough money. Dempsey got $300,000 for Carpentier, and over $200,000 for Gibbons.

Greb's alleged statements could be read in a number of ways. Yeah, every fighter says the champ is ducking him, it's to be expected. It's all part of the business.
Greb is allegedly saying he doesn't want to spar with Dempsey again, that's fair enough.
But if Dempsey was allegedly unwilling to spar with Greb again, you'd probably be using that to call Jack a coward.

Boxers and attrition fighters will always come off well in sparring. Punchers, not so much, having to curb their best attribute. Theres a guy at my gym, the heaviest guy we have, he's also the slowest. He gets outboxed by half the guys but would no doubt knock the **** out of any of us in an actual fight. You can tell it annoys him.

I dont know if this applies to Dempsey/Greb but just some food for thought.

I realize that which is why I quoted comments from the second day to try to remain unbiased here. Also, Greb, for all his supposed lack of power, had Dempsey reeling, which I found of interest.

I am just posting the article because I found it interesting what Greb had to say and for the benefit of those here who might not have access or time to access these articles. I can additionally post articles calling for the fight, which there were many, but time for me is getting short in the coming days as work increases.

I think Harry made a statement that he would be able to handle Jack for a few rounds but very hard for the whole fight.....I have seen middleweight beating heavyweights in sparring. I remember one instance when trial horse upset guy 5'7 middleweight Tom"the Bomb" Bethea beat the day lights out of the 6'5 250 lb undefeated heavyweight contender Leroy Jones (who fought Larry Holmes for title) Tom battered Leroy in the corners at the 28th street gym and gave him one of the best gym beatings I can recall over a couple of rounds...I think Harry could make the fight interesting but I also think Jack lands something to get that KO over Harry Greb (who is one of my favorite fighters)

It's a shame we have to guess how the fight would go.

It's a bigger shame Dempsey liked to face guys just beaten by Greb instead of Greb himself.

I keep hearing this but have not seen it quoted from any source. I have provided sources as to how Greb performed in sparring and what Greb thought a year after those sessions.

It is also an immutable fact that Greb roundly beat 5 of 7 of the fighters Dempsey chose to defend against... and beat most of them multiple times... and inflicted the only defeat on the man who beat Dempsey for the title.

The nonchalance regarding this egregious duck is a bit startling.

Well, I figured it's a bit late to get work up about it, going off the deep end writing angry letters.
