Dempsey v Jeffries ????

Grantland Rice seems to have this fight split pretty evenly.

 

I'd pop a fully woody to see it in a dream machine that's for sure. Jack Demps has the better resume over Jimmy Jeff without doubt, but styles make fights....

Who wins this burner? Hell if I know.. It's a toss-up to me... But since Demps is overrated and Jeff is sometimes shunned from historians, I'll be bold and pick the hulking Jeff to beat Demps by 14th round KO in a wicked affair... Yeah, I favor Jimmy Jeff here.... Cheerio....

for a dude 207 to 220 pounds in his fighting prime, Jimmy Jeff was not slow or lumbering as one might think... I've seen some training clips of Jeff that go back over 100 years to around 1904 when he was age 29 years, and he could move and circle a dock pretty swiftly for a big dude.... He had athletic ability, unlike the rodeo redneck Jess Willard who came later.... WORD!

I dont see it. How do you come to that conclusion?

 

Any man who can run a 10.8 100 meter dash and high jump over 6 feet is not slow. Dempsey may trump him on hand speed and ferocity, but this fight would come down to durability, stamina and who could take more punishment. I lean towards Dempsey, but no way can Jeff be counted out.

What's missing? Jeff had 21 pro fights from 1895 to 1910.... So he KO'd aging ex-champs like "Fitz and Corby" who were well under 200 pounds... I think Jack Demps had a tougher time going up the ladder of success.... I will say Demps defended his title against a few lemons or dude's with little chance of beating him, but his overall pro record is more impressive next to Jeff's... Most will agree with that, too....

Jimmy Jeff by late KO. Both are swarmers, But Prime Jeff is a muscular 219lber, to the v.much lighter 187lb Dempsey! That is a BIG advantage of 32lbs of thick muscle! Boilermaker has lots Better stamina And cheen too. Big Jeff wins as he teh bigger,stronger swarmer.

 

I agree, but it shows athleticism and quickness. My point being, I don't think Jeff was ever a lumbering fighter in his prime and adjust to any advantage in speed Jack may have. Both of these guys are tough as nails, so Jeff isn't going down like Willard and Jack is going to have to deal with the bigger man fighting back and smothering him. This will take its toll on both which is why I said this would come down to endurance and toughness.

 

Dempsey too fast and accurate but a prime Jeffries was strong and could take it pretty good. I think Dempsey stops him before 10
