So, some bull****, unsubstantiated quote is more important than actual resume? And not one or two fights that might suggest Greb was among foremost challengers , and perhaps THE foremost challenger, but a dozen or so fights that absolutely scream it.
S, I am only the messenger of a quote from an article I read. No less, no more ! I had also read aeons ago ,also from an article that Harry Greb would have outpointed Joe Louis ...Food for thought ! P.S. You seem to treat me like an nose...Always picking on me...atsch
We probably agree on 98% of everything about boxing. I believe the quote was floating around, whether or not it was true. However, Greb's record, and who Dempsey chose to defend against, overwhelmingly suggest that Greb should have gotten a shot at the belt.
OF COURSE HARRY GREB deserved a title shot against Dempsey..Sure did in spite of his size, because Greb was no mortal being...But as JFK opined "Life is not fair ". But S, there is a strong possibility that Greb did say to this contemporary boxing writer the statement I posted, saying "after 5 or so rounds Dempsey would kill me "...Our differences are based on my conviction, politics aside, that the old Manassa Mauler at his best was a beast who captured the fancy of the fans and old time boxers and writers of his time, and who had certain qualities in him that no other heavyweight ever had...You and others on ESB think differently...One of us is wrong...Peace be with you...
