Regardless of some people who think Dempsey would be still a threat at HW, I'm willing to bet that he would have issues even with someone like Huck or USS cunningham.

Dempsey would get off his stool for fifteen rounds if you had just handed him a beating with a metal baseball bat. Ruthless determination.

    Dempsey greatest that ever lived.

I don't rate Dempsey all that much but wearing the gloves he worse he'd shatter U.S.S to pieces.

    Cunningham is grossly overrated.

Huck is a wild man. He'd give Dempsey problems, as Firpo did, but in a shootout between the two Huck is still less skilled than Dempsey, and slower. So Dempsey would stop him as well.

I don't rate Dempsey all that much. Not at all. But Cunningham boxes with all the skill of a steaming turd and Huck is a caveman, and not because he knows he is, because he's shocking.

Huck does not belong in a comparison with Dempsey.

Dempsey fans will be happy to know I'm picking him here. Huck is basic and hittable and only fights in spurts. He's bigger/stronger than Dempsey but Dempsey would level him still although I could see Dempsey being caught and taking a KD

While we're at it, why don't we start a thread - who would win out of Dempsey v Johnny Nelson, Dempsey v Mormeck; Dempsey v James Warring.

F*ck me, things are getting ridiculous around here...

Putting a modern world champion with an old time world champion is ridiculous? Nelson, Huck and Mormeck would offer stiffer challenges than most of Dempsey's opposition. Note I pick Dempsey to win

PP - I agree with your prediction:good, but personally I reckon Dempsey would annihalate Nelson, Huck, Warring & Mormeck. I enjoy the "realistic" fantasy threads as much as anyone but get a bit tired of people using any number of modern, fairly mediocre CW belt holders in fantasy threads versus the likes of Marciano and Dempsey, when all they've got in common is size.

In many cases I believe these types of threads are put up as a thinly veiled dig at the likes of Rocky and Jack...I can't prove this, it's just my opinion...

I don't think he annihilates Nelson who I think has a shot because you couldn't hit him if you threw a handful of coins at him. But I think he knocks out the rest, Mormeck could have him down early but Dempsey's better stamina and technique should prevail in a shoot out

It's interesting how low the cruser division is perceived as, cruser world champs are no joke

PP - Norbert Ekassi stopped Nelson, I'm pretty confident Dempsey could also pull it off. I doubt very much Mormeck decks Dempsey...just my opinion mind!

I don't disrespect the CW division per se, I just find it anomalous to try to compare belt holders - most of whom were not even proven the best in their division IN THEIR OWN ERA - to an ATG HW champ such as Dempsey.

I believe a CW Dempsey fighting today would slice through the CW division like a hot knife through butter; in fact the only CW I can see having a good chance against Dempsey would be Holyfield...

Nelson was learning his trade here, nothing like as good as he'd become. Nelson was a boring defensive boxer at his best but that's the style that gave Dempsey fits

Dempsey in a way was only a belt holder himself, he didn't want to unify with the coloured title in the division (Wills). Dempsey was largely fighting cruserweights bar a 37yo Willard coming off 3 years of inactivity, Firpo, Morris and Fulton. I'd personally consider the crusers and HWs Haye beat to be better than Dempsey's, although I'd give Dempsey a good chance against Haye at cruser as Haye is poor on the inside and mid range. Haye has a chance to KO Dempsey too ofcourse

The sport has improved and got more competitive. Boxing in the 20s was not yet at its peak, that's my standpoint. I think it improved allot over the next 10-20 years partly because of Dempsey and the purses he generated which saw greater participation. I think as a sport it's regressed over the last 10 years as it is becoming a minority sport in terms of it's talent pool and the low level of boxers activity

Huck ran from Lebedev for 12 rounds. He wouldn't even get in the ring with Dempsey.

Pitting a man from hundred years ago against a similar sized man from today isn't an insult, it's a reality.

Hernandez would be a better comparison as he's king of the division but huck isn't far behind him.

Jack should win this early as huck loves a good tear up and at this weight there's only rocky who i'd pick in a tear up vs Jack.
