Dempsey is all wrong for Shavers. Ellis I think poses a problem for Jack, but not one that he can't solve. Dempsey TKO 2 Shavers, Dempsey TKO8 Ellis.
Dempsey would make short work of both these fine fighters. Shavers Dempsey would take out in two or three and Ellis in 4.
Shavers could give Dempsey some trouble, he's far more devastating than the crude weightlifter Firpo.
I think Dempsey was overated and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he lost to both guys. I'd probably bet on Jack against Ellis who was more in his weight class, but Earnie was heavier and Jack would've been walking right into him.
Yeah, but bigger, slower fighters who left themselves open were the kind guys Dempsey feasted on and the type of fighter he holds his biggest style advantage over IMO. He was alot like Pacquaio in that regard- the combination of speed, power, and chin/toughness made them ideally suited to tearing up bigger/heavier fighters in impressive fashion-especially one-dimensional ones like Shavers- even if they could be outboxed by master boxers their own size.
Dempsey favourite, but shavers might finish it with a single shot. Firpo did put dempsey out of the ring and shavers was much harder puncher.dempsey had a good chin and good power to recover, but he never was tested against a puncher like shavers...
Why would an established Heavyweight great lose to fighters who failed in their own era? I'm far from a fan of Dempsey, but it's a discredit to him to favour either fighter over him.
Shavers does stand a punchers chance, but Dempsey would destroy him ala Quarry except it would be worse for Shavers. Dempsey tko 2 Ellis would cause more problems, but i think Dempsey would stop him late
