I didn't say he wasn't, that post was indirectly in response to Foremans Hook...who said that "no cruiserweight is taking Shavers power" then a few guys mentioned Quarry...to which Foremans hook said "he was a heavyweight for that fight". The point of my sarcasim is that Quarry wasn't much bigger then Dempsey at all.
I would pick Dempsey to beat shavers and rocky. Had greater single power than Rocky demonstrated by his record against top prime heavyweights, reign for 7 years. Rocky's best fights were against old light heavies (okay ring weight 182 vs 196 average heavy). Shavers was not that speacial. A holmes, Ali and on course Turney all beat Dempsey for me. Dempsey for me might beat peak foreman. That will get every man and his dog commenting. My reasoning being Joe Fraser was a slow starter and dempsey had underrated feet. I not sure foreman would be able to walk him down. If Foreman can not get dempsey in his firing line what happens. I think Dempsey might hammer him from the left side.
...And that's because post counting has **** all to do with boxing knowledge? Besides this one, i could have another 4 accounts with 5000 posts each for all you know, would that make me even more "qualified"? You have 5000+ posts and yet you pick a bum like Shavers and a pathetic HW in Bob Foster (albeit a good LHW) to destroy Jack Dempsey, one of the greatest HW of all time. You're either trolling or you're incredibly stupid.
Dempsey KO in 50 seconds !! Dempsey is underrated here, pretty good footwork (at least better then Shavers) And Gene Tunney said of him, "Jack could recover faster than any man I ever fought. He was dangerous with a five-second interval." ANY MAN....Greb, Tommy Gibbons, Carpentier, Loughran !!
im not mocking the guy...i was just pointing something out to foremans hook.... he basically said no cruiserweight is taking shavers power, to which a few guys mentioned Quarry. I was just making the point that he wasnt much over cruiser..and wasnt much heavier then dempsey.
Yea, color has its cycles...seems like these days, White Russian is the color in the big man brackets..Between the Klitschko's, Ibragimov,Chageav,Vlauev they been holding down pretty strong
Dempsey is quite overrated. I'd pick him to win based on toughness and aggression, but he's in tough here. Knocked down in his title defenses, nearly knocked out vs. Firpo, and was well known to tire after the early rounds. Based on these facts and his fights with Tunney, there is nothing at all to him that makes him a H2H threat against great heavyweights. If Shavers had a chin and a degree of composer, he'd win easily.
Like JQ and former MW Ellis, Jack would have Earnie in serious trouble from the beginning, and Shavers would not be granted a respite and opportunity to gain breathing room with a saving right uppercut as reversed his initial distress against Jimmy.
ill just address the "tire after the early rounds" point....dempsey seemed to have damn good stanima in the brennamen fight
