    Joe Jeanette 1918
Harry Wills instead of Miske 1920
Kid Norfolk instead of Brennan 1920
    Harry Greb 1922

Would wins over these 4 do much to improve Dempsey's legacy? Would they make you think different of him for better or worse?

    By a mile.

Whether it was Dempsey's fault or the fault of the promoters and politicians, he simply didn't accomplish what other dominant champions did. This may be sad, but it is the way it is.

He certainly would have a greater risk at losing than he had facing who he did.

I think he beats all of them.If he had fought Wills, I think he would have stopped him and that would have significantly have enhanced his standing.

The Jeanette fight wouldn't have added a lot.
Kid Norfolk would be among his best wins, though probably not his best
Greb would have been better than any of his wins, and would enhance how I rate him significantly.
Beating Wills would have been massive. Maybe he could have done it, but he didn't. It would drastically change how I rank him.

I don't think he beats Wills in 1920. Harry was beating a higher quality of fighter for years by that point.

    Jeannette. Dempsey on points.
Wills. Hard fight for Dempsey but Jack rises to the occasion and stops him in 15.
Norfolk. A tougher fight than expected and Dempsey has to rally to get a verdict.
Greb. One of those classic heavyweight fights where both men hit the floor but Dempsey gets the final ko, in a whirlwind war. Dempsey by ko 9.

Nice, I'm curious though. What makes you think Greb would floor Dempsey but not necessarily the others or that Greb would drop Dempsey at all?

I mean, I think Dempsey would have run the gauntlet, but we just don't know. The fact is, there were just a lot of good names, black and white, that Dempsey failed to fight, and that is what it is. To me, there is no room for him in the top ten, maybe not in the top fifteen.

Just that Greb and Dempsey would, I imagine go at a hammer and tongs manner, and both would be caught in the storm a little wide open.

Okay gotcha, personally I think Greb was a bit too soft of a puncher to floor Dempsey but I could see him leaving Dempsey with a black eye and maybe a cut or two
