Luther Mccarthy was the best of the white heavyweights by far as he started to come into his own. he was still young but by 1913 was dominating the best white hopes in the world. Him and Jack Dempsey would have been having brutal wars by 1918-1919

A fat out of shape 37 year old jack johnson? sure. dont forget, willard beat him becuase of the heat length of bout and age. Not because of skill. Johnson outboxed willard easily for 20 rounds, if the bout had been 20 or even 25, johnson gets the decision.

I have never seen Valuev hurt and he took punches from a lot of 210+lbs heavyweights. I see this one going the distance. Dempsey scoring a UD.

The same way he reache 7' 3'' Ben Wray and broke his jaw in 12 places.

If Johnson was out of shape, he would not have lasted 26 rounds in that heat. Johnson was still a great fighter in 1915.

When Dempsey is in his crouch, how does Valuev reach him with an effective punch?

I think Dempsey should win either by decision with body punching or perhaps by stopping Valuev, which I would judge possible. I think Dempsey would be too fast and elusive to be caught by that many of Valuev's punches. Valuev might actually do better with the bigger fellows who would be right in front of him and standing upright in his punching zone.

Fulton had a glass jaw. Willard seemed to be able to take it all day when young and in shape. I think it more likely Willard stops Fulton.

As for McCarty, who knows? He was a great prospect but still only a prospect.

Ben Wray was a cowboy from Oklahoma who was billed as 7' 2" and who sparred with Dempsey prior to the Gibbons fight. I don't think he was a fighter at all, just a big man who wanted to get in the ring with Dempsey with the resulting slaughter being ballyhooed by Kearns on the basis of Wray's giant size.

Valuev is an entire different kettle of fish from Ben Wray.

Valuevs power or lack thereof rather kind of confuses me for someone THAT big.. Does he ever sit on his punches or is he really just not a big puncher..?

Dempsey TKO/UD....(I dont know much about Valuev, but I dont think he has been down, so...meh..)

"Valuev's power or lack thereof rather kind of confuses me for someone THAT big."

". . . is he really just not a big puncher?"

The argument that big men should punch harder or take punches better makes logical sense, but boxing history just does not back it up.
