Straight off, to clarify, this is not an attempt to start another McVey / Mendoza world war. This question was asked in General, and I'm interested to know the opinion of rather better calibre posters. So: Dempsey at his best vs Wilder. My personal opinion is that Dempsey destroys him emphatically. Too fast, too accurate, and Wilder's chin too shaky. Other posters point out that Wilder has got extreme dimensions, that he's established a jab when he's had to (vs Stiverne, for example) and that despite all the talk of a dodgy chin he's never been KO'd. How about it?
Dempsey wins, likely early. Wilder is a very tall man with some skills and good power, but his very careful selection of non-top ten opponents in title shots strongly suggests he doesn't beat anyone who can him with power. I felt he was " exposed " in victory a few times as champion. It appears that Wilder is running from Povetkin. If he wants respect, fight Povetkin. I suspect Wilder will try to belt milk some more. Some of Dempsey's best performances came against larger men. Fulton and Willard for example.
It did indeed get postponed because Povetkin had a trace result of Meldonium in his sample. However, Wilder hasn't looked too keen to take on Povetkin at all. I note his terrible bicep injury miraculously healed itself the moment the WBC ordered Povetkin to face Stiverne :deal Your take on Wilder / Dempsey?
