Since critics are so harsh on Primo Carnera's involvement in fixed fights, if we are to theorize that Dempsey threw the fight against Flynn, does that make him a faker champion than Primo Carnera? If the allegations are true, Primo never knew that his opponents were taking dives. Yet, it is a popular theory that Dempsey willingly threw a fight. Took the dive. I don't know if that's true, but if it is, shouldn't Dempsey be seen more of a "fraud" than Primo Carnera? OR....OR Are both allegations inconsequential to the fighters overall ability and success in the sport? And do we latch on too much to colorful stories of the corrupt giants, and fraud elephants of the past? And do these stigmas break away once equal standards are held to their peers?
There's no proof that Dempsey threw the fight. Most here think he didn't. The same is true of Carnera's opponents - there's no proof. It's all rumour.
If Dempsey did I couldn't really blame him. A guy comes along offering you more money than you could make in a year just to throw a lousy fight when you aren't even a top contender and practically starving living a miserable life. I probably would have done the same thing, theoretically, had Dempsey thrown the fight.

Worst case scenario, and assuming it’s all true, does it even matter considering he didn’t know about it, and was still beating world class boxers at the championship level in authentic bouts? And going back to the point of the thread, is it fair to negate Primos legitimacy based on fights he didn’t know were fixed, while giving someone like Dempsey, who took a dive supposedly, a pass?
The whole Primo being a fraud thing is dumb. How was the guy hanging around the top level of the sport for so long? We all know many of his biggest fights were not fixed. So what was he doing there grabbing wins and belts?
You know that was the case with Carnera ,so to say it was just rumours is not true is it? And to bracket the two of them together is an obscenity imo
