Witnessed SRR-Armstrong, Elmer Ray in action, shook hands with Jack Johnson, got his ribs pummeled by a guy who put Greb on the deck with those same mitts, etc, etc, etc, etc... Yeah, his antagonists really have a lot of value to contribute to this board by comparison.:roll:

Assuming we're all alive and well in ten or 20 years, I have an idea who might be embarrassed at their conduct here, and it won't be Burt or Burt's fan club legions.

 

Getting back to the fight, from Dempsey's point of view it appears to be more trouble than it is worth which was a shame, to me Dempsey would have won. As for the stupid comments you are giving the idiot what he wants attention, when you see a crazy man running naked in a thunderstorm you don't join him.

 

Burt, by know you have to know the standards of this board. There are many decent and bright posters who frequent this place, many with completely different viewpoints, strong emotional attachments and a variety of styles to express them ... there are also a large amount of punks of all ages ... some change names and alias frequently, others have tens of thousands of posts to their alias, many work in packs like little girls .. all in all their behavior is predictable and excuses nothing ... my point is that it is raw, rough and tumble here .. a real high school locker room filled with as many petty cowards and key board loud mouths as there are good guys .. if you are going to play expect it, ignore it and do not personalize it ... I've been around here for years and get as much of a kick out of manipulating the jerko=fs as posting at times .. it is what it is ... a ton of good here as long as you don't let the inmates get to you ...

To think that 2+ years ago ESB classic was a place to discuss boxing in an intelligent and indepth manner, that helped to modify my opinions and thoughts on boxing...Now it has become romper room, throwing out inane insults rather than actually bringing something to the table. It has become hard to even tell the difference between classic and general by the level of maturity exhibited anymore. My visits have already become less frequent (Don't care if you care!) and less enjoyable! Oh well, life goes on!

 

Disagree negroid. Coldhands89 will **** your **** up. He's record in street fights is 82-4. Thats gangster. He's a ghetto vet, and I know powerpuncher never showers so he is an animal but he has no chance.

 

Bert's got a point when it comes to Dempsey. I can't believe how everyone views him on here. You guys must seriously not know too much about boxing. He could do everything. Just like modern day fighters like Morales, Barrera, Hearns etc. he could get drawn into a brawl too easy. His 1 negative against him, yet cause of this his rep gets severely tarnished while the modern day guys are applauded for being warriors.

I know here in Australia Dempsey is still considered a god like figure, more so than Louis and Ali.

 

I agree that it was the circumstances/politics of that era. I dont believe for a second Dempsey was afraid of Wills or anybody else in the world.

I dont know for sure what part Rickard played in preventing the match. He did promote the Johnson/Jefferies bout and Im not sure if he wanted to go through that again.

Maybe Dempsey couldve done more but in general Jack got kinda distracted from boxing in the mid w20s. He went to Hollywood wasnt an active champion.

 

I didn't say it couldn't be funny.
But it was an unprovoked insult that used a man's advanced years as a central point of attack. That doesn't mean it can't be funny.


It did make me question PP's character, the main point being he focussed on 'old burt' before burt had even set foot in the thread.


But, to be fair, I don't know PP, and I don't think it was that bad.


It seems people here have used it as some sort of catalyst to launch into attacks on each other that probably have other underlying motivations.
Like when Archduke Franz Ferdinand got whacked.
