We do have to give Sylvester Stallone credit,

He did write the 'screenplay', so it was his adapted idea.

That, and his portrayal of Rocky Balboa, qualify for excellent performances,
    both written and acting.

But the Boxing Hall of Fame.

How about Lamar Clark, '44' straight knockouts.

Stallone was not a big actor when Rocky came out. He was in a few movies before that like Lords of Flatbush, but he really was a struggling actor. He makes Rocky and he is in the bigtime. So he had to make Rocky 2 and he just went out of control after that. One of my favorite Rocky movies is actually Rocky 3, although that was when he started to turn Rocky into a comic book kind of movie. I do admit each Rocky movie was more ridiculous than the previous one after Rocky 2.

The Rocky Series being the worst boxing movies ever? If that's not a total hipster comment, I don't know what is.

Robert deniro and Stallone hijacked boxing for the sake of their careers. They both did well out of it.

Who was closest to being a boxer? who was closest to inspiring people into taking up the sport I don’t know, they are actors. Neither could or ever did fight.

I think Stallone has more interest in the sport, he attends more boxing shows and through writing the rocky series each idea was raped/stolen from actual boxing history so I would say sly did research and understands and respects the sport for what it gave him more than bobby deniro.

Deniro? he read a book and absorbed himself in a character, the idea of a character that his director kind of hijacked as a project to use as a kind of "artistic vehicle" of how he felt at the time. Great movie but it was nothing like the book. Did it represent the feel good factor of rags to riches of champion boxers? I don’t think so. Jake lamotta supported his mother and siblings when his father walked out on them, there was none of that in the movie. There was a whole lot of domestic violence and Deniro showing that he could act well as both a fat man and a fit man though.

Paul Newman played graziano and that made him. Is Newman in the hall of fame? No. And that is how it should stay.

Stallone is in the hall of fame for using a lot of real boxing history mixing it all up and using it all together for one phoney feel good character. It is still bogus but it goes further because Deniro's support of boxing stops with the film he did.

People are missing the point of what i'm saying. Of course i dont think any actor belongs in the hall of fame. But since they said screw it an have a free for all with stallone. I thought raging bull was much more significant. Deniro or stallone shouldnt be in. It was my way of saying raging bull was a better performance.

It was art but it was not real or true to the book.

The hairstyles were wrong and so were the suits. I dont remember lamotta with a Afro and I never saw a photo of of a boxer wearing a shirt with colars bigger than the tie.

I know it was voted best film of the 1980s but have never understood its apeal to people outside boxing.

scorsese had a heart problem and decided to use a darker element to the story ...so he chose black and white film!

the fight scenes were intrestingly shot - smoky atmosphere elephant trumpiting etc.. but still as silly as a rocky film IMO.

dinero wanted to show he could put weight on?

Do you think will smith should be invited into the hall of fame?

well bro. I wasnt into the fight scenes. But I thought the acting was done really good. I dont watch movies based on fighters alot. Or play any boxing video games because you just cant mimic that stuff to good effect. But I thought Deniro just played the character so good. My favorite an people will dissagree was the Jack dempsey movie made in the 80's. It wasnt over dramatic but really good short story you know?

    'The Great White Hope'

Should James Earl Jones have been inducted into the 'Boxing Hall of Fame'.

Or Budd Schulberg for writing 'The Harder They Fall'

Actors have their Oscar's, Academy Awards, Golden Globes, Hollywood Walk of Fame,
    and Cannes Film Festival.

They have enough of the 'self-serving kiss-ass' Award Ceremonies, that the Average Joe
or 'club-fighting boxer' could not attend, unless he was a 'parking attendant' or
    valet.

If you haven't taken a real punch in an Amateur Tournament or Professional Bout,
you should never be allowed to be inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame.

If deniro played the character so good why is his mannerisms in the film so unlike the real jake lamotta? raging bull is a good film if it was not a true story about a real guy with the same title as a champions autobiography. If Lamotta is happy it is because the film made him cash but it is not the same as the book. even his book was given some extra pep from his freind. Without the book there isstill a lot of articles about what kind of guy lamotta is and was as a fighter and it is not that much like the film. go on youtube, watch lamotta on a chat show, he is not like dinero in ragiing bull. Its about as close as goodfellas was to the real henry hill. Hollywood liked the idea and did their own thing with it.

Rocky IV ended the Cold War single handed.

    Sly deserves his place.

John Rambo stops Rocky Balboa in '6'.

Of course the bout would have to be held in the 'Jungles of Vietnam'
