Remember the three rugged fights these two had ? Harding a mile behind on points, stopping Denis late in the first one. Andries evening the score by middle rounds ko in the second. Finally,in the rubber match,Harding eking out victory over the distance. The remarkable thing about these fights was, that on each occasion, the betting underdog won ! Can anyone recall any other trilogies when this happened ?
Steve, a great trilogy indeed. The first bout being a great display of toughness on both sides.. The return match being a bloody whitewash win for Andries in Melbourne, a result that many asumed would be the end for Harding. Taking the rubber match win over Andries assured Harding a tremendous amount of credit.. unfortunately Harding has fallen on hard times and isnt the great warrior he once was. Both fighters were something else in those bouts!!! Any idea what Andries is doing nowdays??
3 very good fights not my cup of tea normally but i cant deny the brillaince and heart these guys put into this match ups. Simply breathtaking the efoort involved.
The first two were the most action packed. Jeff was behind on all cards in the first, and came back to take out Andries in the 12th. In the rematch, Andries was in deep trouble. Steward told him between rounds that if he didn't win right then and there, that he was stopping it. He came out to beat Jeff.
I always thought Andries was robbed in that one. Graziano-Zale, I believe. All of the Beau Jack- Bob Montgomery fights were won by the underdog.
