Alright guys, Question for anyone that has more knowledge than me, Have you seen/heard of how he is progressing? I remember watching him school Lee McAllister (as limited as Lee was) and thought that he could turn out to be a major player in the lightweight division. Given Ricky Burns poor last outings how would you see a fight between the two panning out? I think Shafikov would have a great chance although Ricky would have a reasonable reach/height advantage.
Shafikov would stop Burns believe me he would walk him down and beat him up its as simple as that, Burns aint got the dig to keep him off
The biggest thing Burn has always had going for him is that he was a huge Super Featherweight and a big Lightweight which has kept him in fights like the Gonzalez and Beltran ones. He is also good at using his size and reach advantages in fights and with Shafikov listed at 5ft 5inches tall, i could see this type of opponent being perfect for him. If Burns fought Terrance Crawford, he would get beaten up and either lose a wide UD or stopped late.
His career seems in a spot of uncertainty currently. He's now operating over in U.S and tonight in Puerto Rico. His weight is LW and LWW but seems like he dropped down to face Rahimov but his next two fights have been middle of the road operators. I'd like to see him get a major step up in 2014 against a fringe or world class level fighter just to gauge him. He's good at European level and has a style that will trouble champions but not overly happy with his career direction ATM.
