Does not really get a mention much round here, was a 3 time world champion, had some early losses in his career but found his form at age 31 and never looked back. What are your thoughts on dennis?
I remember watching him fight Bailey (I think it was Devon Bailey anyway) and him winning in the 12th. Don't know why that fight stuck in my mind really as i probably hadn't even been born when it happened just remember the last round KO Never really saw much of him to be honest but I get the feeling he shouls have retire before he did
Cotto20 strikes again Frank Warren used to say Andries was the most dedicated sportsmen he had ever worked with
Good story Andries. Crude, 1 dimensional,With unbelievable heart. Took a savage beating off Tommy Hearns. After the fight he goes to live and train at the Kronk where Steward gives him a jab and gets him his world title. Remember his fights with Aussie Jeff Harding being ****in wars.
Strong, crude, horrible to watch but undeniably a warrior. His win over Jeff Harding in Oz to regain the title for the second time was one of those 'How did he do that?' moments and he also scored a great win over Bobby Czyz in the States.
I tried for six months to get him on my Setanta show. I'm still trying to get him on my BBC London show - I heard he was either driving a taxi or working as security at a hospital. Adios.
tom collins?...they fought for the british title a few times..i think they fought 5 or 6 times altogether... collins fought rogiggiani {spelling}, karl taylor, jeff harding, henry maske, johnny nelson....not sure if he fought bunny johnson too at the early end of his career
Yup. Wouldn't have been so bad if he didn't stop him...does anyone actually, truly know how old Andries is, I remember there being some debate about it at the time
Denis Andries v Bunny Johnson was at Stoke terrible Fight Both finnished out of the Ring a few Times.
