Underway, three rounds in the books:

Paul Butler vs. Najah Ali, 12 rounds @ super flyweight for the Commonwealth title

 

Ali was down in the 1st but has rallied back and bossed the whole 3rd with underhanded body hooking flurries while pitching forward on his toes, keeping Butler quiet offensively.

29-27 Butler

 

Ali is slow to answer the bell for the 4th, delaying coming off his stool, seemingly having some argument with his trainer. Despite his excellent showing in the previous round he is looking very disinterested in mixing it up with Butler now and is getting walked back with high tennis-racket right hands. Ali runs out of room to run and Butler plants a vicious double left hook skipping from head to body. Ali is down and not the least bit keen to contend with Richard James Davies' count.

It was an impressive KO, but it drew comparisons to none other than Mike the Body Snatcher McCallum from the BN commentators. atsch

Ring walks, not much hullabaloo.

 

Round 1

Vassell is following Gavin across the ring stretching out his left jab, cranking it in spiraling motions slowly, feeling the range out. Gavin slides back with his front leg dragging as his rear is thrust out behind him and checks Vassell's jab with his right glove and lines up ambush straight lefts from outside. Gavin dives under Vassell's jab and clinches, face nestled against his ribs. 1-2 to the body by Gavin. Short right hook by Gavin thrown over the Vassell jab as they slam together in a clinch. Lunging right by Vassell misses. Gavin winds up a right hook but gets walked into, Vassell's arm netting the right hand of Gavin as they press in close. Break ordered by the ref. Vassell lands a right hand on the break. Gavin slides back and jabs.

Round 2

Vassell sweeps out a triple backhanded left jab and Gavin dodges with retreating steps before slinging in with a right jab. Gavin swerves away from overhand rights and chucks in the 1-2 on Vassell's face and chest. Vassell chases Gavin toward the ropes but can't pin him down.

Round 3

Vassell is walking straight into Gavin. Clinch. Short uppercuts on the inside by Vassell, digging into Gavin's underarms. Gavin is wrenching his arms free while spinning out to center ring to escape clinches and flashing the double jab. Gavin ducks under a left hook, grazing the back of his skull. Vassell is applying pressure but not able to keep Gavin anchored to one spot.

Round 4

Vassell is walking Gavin down and landing with big slices to the body. Gavin is dropping both hands and backing straight up, getting tickled by Vassell's jab. Vassell is gathering his curled left forearm around Gavin's head as Gavin presses in low against him and holds, then whacking with his free right. Vassell is scoring with his uppercut as Gavin leaps in low trying for a leaning clinch.
