Cashing out on Heaney a lot earlier than I thought. If they’re relying on thousands of Stoke fans they need to do it during an international break.
Not a great fight to be honest. Bentley is levels above Heaney. Doesn’t make a lot of sense. He just beat Kieran Smith in a round. Maybe Warren will finally make Bentley vs Sheeraz next year. Also will clash with Boxxer’s show at Wolverhampton which is much better and with Ben Whittaker vs Ricky Summers to be added.
I’m surprised that Queensberry are making Bentley vs Heaney. Firstly, I thought Sheeraz was the mandatory for the British title, so it’s strange that the board are allowing another defence in between. Secondly, Heaney is a big ticket seller. I think Bentley beats him and I expected Queensberry to try to get a big fight at Stoke’s ground in the summer. Doubt that would sell as well if he gets beat by Bentley. I saw that Heaney had sneaked into the WBA rankings, so I was thinking that they could try to get Lara over in the summer and put Heaney in with a couple of pillow fists in the mean time to keep him active.
Think Heaney wants to get moving as he’s getting up there in age. They got refused by Stoke FC when they wanted to go there this summer, so it could be the same again next year. They want to do a big show up north and need the foundation of Heaney hopefully doing somewhere like 5-8k tickets for a big British title fight like Bentley in the MEN. He has Liam Davies to do tickets in that region and if he keeps winning, I can see him becoming big news up there. I think Nick Ball will be on this card and just a guess, but I think Zelpha Barrett might have been offered/accepted a fight with Anthony Cacace also for this card. If that’s the case, it will explain why he pulled out of the bids for the IBF last week.
Really like the Barrett vs Cacace fight if they can get it signed. I was reading earlier about Conlan Boxing putting on Crocker vs McKenna in early December in Belfast and wondered if they could get Cacace on that card but would be even better if they make the fight with Barrett.
Just seen an interview with Fast Car and he mentioned Barrett possibly being on the Irish card, so I’m assuming my guess was wrong. Just thought it made sense as Cordina doesn’t seem keen on the fight, plus the purse bid pull out etc
Your theory made sense as why did Barrett pull out of the purse bid against Nunez. They could have made a deal with both with Matchroom. Now Nunez gets a free bye to fight Rakhimov with the winner as mandatory. Barrett against Dilmaghani isn't a fight which excites me too much.
I'm surprised that Summers pulled out the Yarde fight to go the whitaker route. Its a better fight for Ricky but didn't think Erroll Johnson would upset Frank like that.
Apparently the headline will be Nick Ball vs Isaac Dogboe on November 18, with Denzel Bentley vs Nathan Heaney and Gavin Gwynne for the European Title against the 47 year old Italian on the undercard. Main event is a great fight if it gets confirmed. Dogboe has been lucky in a lot of his fights though and should have a few more losses. No real interest in the Gwynne fight. Always good to see a domestic fight but I think Bentley wins very easily against Heaney. Don’t know why they’re going to the big Manchester Arena though. Unfortunately this will clash with Boxxer’s show at Wolverhampton featuring Azim vs Petitjean for the European Title, Denny vs Signani for the European Title, and Ben Whittaker against Ricky Summers. I’ll personally be tuning in for the Sky show. It’s a shame that it looks like they’ll clash as both are good main events. Do prefer the undercard for the Sky show from the sounds of it.
They will probably add Moses Itauma in his first 8 rounder and maybe Ekow Essuman to the Manchester Card.
2 decent domestic cards and no women mentioned either. They should go to Liverpool if they’re headlining with Ball. Still not far from Stoke. Think I mentioned Ball v Dogboe on a thread about which domestic fights people would like to see. Good step up for Ball.
