The issue is Deontays peak is a mystery. He legitimately never won a round against Fury unless scored a KD over 3 fights. He hardly won rounds against Luis Ortiz...and was shutout by Parker.

Wilder will be a shoe-in for HOF despite all that or if he even deserves it. He did a lot of PPV numbers and put together some highlight reel KOs even if they were against low quality opponents. He helped bring relevance back to HW and his popularity will get him in...I mean, look no further than Arturo Gatti.

    Its just politics.

Fury does get credit for those wins and had Wilder beat them he would get credit as well. But Wilder resume wise isn't ahead of Povetkin so he doesn't deserve to rank higher. If these guys qualify as inconsequential fodder why doesn't Wilder himself qualify as inconsequential?

Beating Chisora might not help him much bit wins over Povetkin, Joshua, Usyk or Zhang would have considerably helped his resume. People are rated on what they do in their era and it's not clear where Wilder ranks in his own era.

I CBA to look it up but one that'd be good to know is how many of Wilder's 10 defences were mandatories..

Two (maybe three), but none of them were "really" mandatories.

Stiverne 2 (should have been literally anyone else on the ladder, they really didn't want Povetkin as mandatory)
    Breazeale (should have been Whyte)
Fury 2 (technically it was a mandated rematch following the controversial decision in fight 1)

Everyone knew the majority of the real fighters were outside the American circuit. Wilder was heavily protected, it was just Fury who got there first.

Still, 10 defences is 10 defences, and a KO reel draws eyeballs
