Training Breazeale, what would be the one thing you would drill into his head? Over and over again?

"Dominic, do not EVER, NEVER, drop your left. Keep it glued to your left ear. If he is in a position to throw a right hand do NOT drop the left."

I'm flabbergasted. I always wondered if Virgil Hunter was a very good trainer. Just found out he isn't.

He made a mistake and he paid for it, However that's not the point I am trying to stress. I am saying that Wilder didn't out box him for five or six rounds, he just flat out knocked him out. We never got to see a boxing match and in that situation, Breazeale had a chance.

There’s a difference between coaching and puppetry. You don’t have the fighter on strings where you can manipulate his moves.

A guy comes to VH for one training camp and brings whatever ability, habits (good and bad) and baggage he already had. You can literally tell a guy 100 times a day to do this or not do that and sometimes he’s going to do exactly what he knows not to do ... is a quarterback coach bad because the player throws an interception ... did he not tell the guy to not throw interceptions?

You can believe VH is or isn’t a good trainer, but I’m 100 percent sure every training in boxing history who hung around the sport for any meaningful period of time trained a guy who got knocked out.

I've coached quite a bit, usually team sports. The last team I coached, boys basketball, they went undefeated their last two seasons to end their high school careers. A lot more moving parts there than what Hunter was working with.

It doesn't matter whether it is one training camp. Hunter wasn't going to change DB's style in one fight but it was a very simple message he had to impart, in this case. He couldn't even do that.
