He was supposed to have fought a 4-2 (4) opponent on July 3rd, in yet another 6 rounder, in Mississippi.

    Any word?

Hey, that Kevin Johnson fight is off boxrec completely. ...I'm a little late with that but I'll answer the Wilder thing in a few weeks.

    Got it:

Deontay Wilder used three punches — a left jab, a left hook and a right hand — to earn a first-round TKO against the nearly 400-pound Dustin Nichols in front of a capacity crowd.

    from TuscaloosaNews.com

That's the ninth of his eleven wins (all by stoppage) to come in the first round - and would be his tenth in a row if he hadn't allowed the last guy to hang around until the third. Of course, it's not exactly murderer's row, but he's doing what he's supposed to.

Does Wilder have any amateur background? If so, what's his record there?

I don't know much about his amateur background, but I do know he competed in Bejing in 2008. He didn't medal. Wilder is not yet polished, but look the hell out!

I mentioned this yesterday of the overrated heavyweights thread and I mentioned Wilder.

he needs to step up in class soon as all his fights have been against nobodies.

That Bronze Medal is deceiving, guys. He had less than 30 amateur fights, he had like 22 when he won the Trials.

I would let him fight nobodies until he's around 18/19-0 with a lot of KOs. This kinda puffed up BS record flies with the US TV stations. Then they can go hunt down old names that have now become journeymen, such as Rahman, Barrett or McCall and try to get ranked with the ABC organizations.

Guys like Wilder or Thomas could be "ready" in 4-5 years, around the time both Klit brothers will already have retired. That'd be good timing, the division would be wide open, there for the taking.

The younger guys can then battle it out with the +/- 30 year olds that are biding their time right now: Povetkin/Solis/Boytsov/Chambers/Adamek.
