I don't blame the man at all for fighting a few cans- everyone does it and he needs the time to deverlope himself. But he should stay away from guys that look this bad. Its no good for his image. And he should soon be ready to step it up to the cliff Couser Danny Bacheldor level.
Who else wants to see Monk Foreman vs Deontay Wilder in a few fights? neither guy has a deep amateur career but both will have some draw power and it could be a nice head to head of prospects(or a prospect and a JCC Jr. type cash cow). And perhaps later on down the road Deontay and Joey Dawejko could go head to head.
It took you over 15,000 posts to finally get one right, but congratulations, you have finally done it!
Exactly. And the guy is obviously not yet polished, yet obviously appears to be on his way. I'm sure Mark Breland is quite competent, but imagine if Emanuel Steward got a hold of Wilder....I'm thinking Heavyweight Thomas Hearns.
Breland is a good trainer for him because he was big for his weightclass as well and so Wilder can relate to his style of fighting. But I agree, Steward would turn this kid into a monster. I was thinking of this awhile back because of his size, he could be the HW Hitman.
I agree about Wilder vs. Foreman being interesting - and lucrative, if it's well marketed. Blood relatives of all time greats always sell tickets, and throw in a bronze medalist to boot, and the 100% KO ratios and the thrill of "someone's 0 has got to go!" and yeah, you got yourself a moneymaker. I fear I must profess my ignorance of Joey Dawejko, however.
I'm not going to knock the guy for fighting easy competition so far- it's not like everyone's going to come out and fight competition like Povetkin or Shumenov did right off the bat, and Wilder's smart for not going that route because he's still raw. There's absolutely no shame in that right now, and it's not like he's mouthing off about wanting to fight the Klitschkos or Haye ASAP anyways. I'm still not expecting a tough, journeyman level fight for him for at least another year, and probably two. In the meantime, as long as he's getting plenty of fights in and keeping his nose to the grindstone to improve, that's all I can reasonably expect out of the dude. Fighting often can offset fighting great competition for an improving fighter, and so far, that's what Wilder's been doing: he's fought 7 times in 09 and 3 times already so far in 2010. I think he's going about it the right way for where he's at in this stage of his career.
[/quote] That guys Is Dustin Nichols AKA Worm:rofl His got Huge Frame and Weights about 400 pounds, Oh Deah.
Not anytime soon. Wilder needs a lot of work in the gym. You won't see Wilder facing say a top 50 box rec guy until 2012 and beyond. His careful match making tells me he needs a lot of work, and might become a protected fighter.
