No, they'll be too many people calling for him to step up. Plus he'll adjust to the pro game the more he fights so he should be ready to step up early next year.

You gotta remember, Deontay is an American Olympian, so Mendoza will naturally not be a big fan. If he was from the former Soviet Union he'd be all about the guy.

I am afraid they are going to turn him into a 'Gerry Cooney' get him a bunch of quick KO's against bums and then throw him to the wolves for a big pay day. I hope not but no way he should be fighting a fat redneck slob that weighs 400 pounds at this stage. Pitiful.

he was the number 2 American Amateur Heavyweight behind Deontay Wilder, has a deep war chest of amateur awards(PAL, Under 19 Nationals, Eastern Trials, Under 19 World). So they could try to bill that fight down the road as the best two Americans going head to head.

Joey is a kid though. I don't know him that well but he's a young guy, I don't recall him making the Olympic Trials either, think he was too young.

anyone else think calling him the bronze bomber is so weirdly coincidental.... especially since i think the HW division when louis was about to come into his prime was in a similar slump as it is today..

If Deontay was anything like Joe, he wouldn't be the Bronze Bomber, he'd be the Gold Goblin or something.

398 as seen there was not even Dustin Nichols' career-high ring weight, if you can believe it. 421 was, in January of last year. :scaredas:

Just to put that in perspective: Eric "Butterbean" Esch only exceeded 400lbs twice - in his forties, and never broke 420.

Wilder should fight Klitschkos now, afterall, HBO wants him to fight their best? Boytsov would be good fight, Ustinov, Chambers, Austin, Valouev, Povetkin, Tua, Rahman, someone? His next fight is against Christy Martin.

Well, win #13 (and KO #13) came just a few hours ago...but the disturbing news is that 36 year old journeyman Harold Sconiers reportedly put him down and nearly out in the 2nd round of their untelevised contest on the undercard of Telefutura's Solo Boxeo show. :think
