Wilder states here than modern heavyweights are better than in Tyson`s era because of modern training methods and equipment, do fans aree with his simplistic viewpoint?

One may argue they could be more athletic but that doesn't by default mean better fighters.

Second this ... boxing, while often dictated by conditioning, is more than just that; and I'd put a significant wager that the modern stuff doesn't bring all that much better into the picture. When I see a modern HW that isn't gassed at the end of 12 rounds and reduced to gasping, clinching and throwing single shots - like many of the old school fighters - I'll give new training methods a nod, but it hasn't happened with any frequency to suggest it makes any real difference. I want to see two guys trading leather like Holmes/Norton in the 15th round. The only significant role I see it playing is in terms of rehab to prevent or recover from injury; that may help lengthen some careers. As to the rest of it - hyperbaric chambers and all - nice toys, but they don't make champions.

modern athletes are stronger, faster, bigger, etc, but way behind in fundamentals.

If boxing was all about being in physical shape, guys like Toney would of lost lot more fights. Look at Tyson Fury too, you think he was a better athlete than Wlad or Wilder? Fury's training methods before he got together with Ben Davidson were definitely old school and out dated, yet he beat Wlad who trained with more modern methods.

Same with Joe Calzaghe, he trained using old school methods yet undefeated. Being in shape and a good athlete is only half the equation, you need skills to go with being a physical specimen and Mike Tyson in his prime had both.

Guys like Foreman or Tyson had the power to be effective successful fighters regardless of whatever era they'd have been involved in, and Wilder himself has largely proved that fighter who relies mainly on punching power can still carve out a place at the top of the sport, so whatever "modern training methods and equipment" might have done to improve the process behind preparing boxer for fights I cant really say I agree with him.

Great fighters of the past would likely still be great fighters if they were in their primes today, because it take more to make a great fighter than just training methods and equipment.

His athletic-ism and feetwork are better he contends.

This jerk should learn to respect folks like Tyson or Lewis who accomplished far more in this sport than he ever did...or ever will.

Wilder is better because athletes have batter training today? But he just lost to a guy who looks about as athletic as a donut & who's training methods include pies, coke & karaoke!

exactly, hes making it sound like the fighters in the 70's onward were malnourished like jack dempsey was. this dude is a clown.

and no the only thing that modern athletes have today is that they are just bigger, and people are forgetting that many athletes today are still taking enhancement drugs, most of them do.
