First of all let me start by saying that I have been reading this site for a number of years and the constant debates have always been a great source of entertainment and knowledge. So thanks to all!

Moving onto the topic in point regarding the ongoing saga of Deontay Wilder and the heavyweight scene. As with everyone here, despite which side of the fence you fall on ultimately we all want this fight made and we are all trying to decipher the talk from what's actually happening. In the run up to Fury Vs. Wilder fight I have heard one thing that I found very interesting.

When commenting in a recent documentary on BT Sport Wilder alluded to his motivations behind getting into Boxing. He retold the story of his daughters illness and providing money and security for his family as being his main reason for fighting. He also mentioned the fact his children watch his fights, understand what he does but are adamant that they do not want to see him getting knocked out.

Now maybe I'm reading to much into these comments but as much as I completely appreciate his reasoning for getting into boxing could they not taint his motivation to fight the higher risk fights? As much as his purses are ridiculed, 2 million dollar fights in Alabama against the Top 15 - 30 may seem far more appealing to a man only looking to support his family rather than going into a 50/50 fight with someone like AJ for 20 million with the risk of being knocked out in front of his children.

Maybe his attempts to make this AJ fight are covering up a man who in truth puts his family before of his legacy.

    Welcome :)

I thought Wilders back story was one of the most interesting aspects of him as a fighter. Far more so than the bronze bomber / bombzquawk nonsense. When he's talking like that he's easily one of the most likeable and even charismatic Boxers working today. The bt sport interview was a good platform for him.

I like to think the more thoughtful guy is the real Deontay but have slowly come round to him also being either easily led or a bit of an idiot when he's running his mouth.

Whichever I don't think he fights like someone overly concerned about his safety, but part of that could be the careful way he's been matched at each turn.

Agreed. He did a recent interview with IFL and because it wasn’t one of his TBV boys (Nes) he came across a lot more genuine and likeable. I can’t stand those ego stroking interviews.

I like deontays story and if he really was happy picking up 2 mill a fight for his family fight after fight I'd have no problems with that. But he is ducking Joshua and at the same time going all over social media calling Joshua a ducker and a coward and a phony and a fake champion. That's alot of dirty words and a lot of accusations to be throwing at somebody whose clearly trying to make the fight.

But it doesn't matter you are wrong anyway, wilder is a nasty piece of work, womanising, woman hitting, a ducker whose been protected his whole career with a padded record and nice guys don't do what they did to breazeale in front of the man's children. Deontay is not a nice man.

Deontay is a turd and also a massive moron, Finkel has been able to feeding what ever bull **** he feels like cuz Wilder seems so damn gullible too and sooner or later he will have his belt took off him by a good ranked and prime fighter rather than a gatekeeper or the physically unfit.

I didnt used to mind Wilder but the more i see and hear of him and the more i read of his back story the more and more unlikable he becomes.

He spends most of his money on awful clothing, golden pistols and bazookas. He don't care about his kids.

He is breeding an army with his wife. I think he is now on his 5th kid and counting. Tyson Fury is on his 4th or 5th too though.

Everyman thinks about his kids when he makes decisions about his job.

Until Wilder faced Ortiz he was definitely taking the easiest route possible, and his lack of skill and amateur background was used as an excuse.

Now there are no excuses left and we expect him to be fighting the very best. No way is he ducking fighters now because of a lack of belief or a fear of being hurt. The AJ fight hasn’t come off but he is facing another top tier HW in Tyson Fury.

He needs to watch with wasting money on stupid diamond studded watches or gold jewels because he is being ripped off. The resale on that stuff is poor. He needs to have investments so just in case he can’t fight again- he is secure for life. It only takes one punch in sparring or fight night to end a career.

Believe me I want this fight to happen more than anyone and tbh being from UK I believe AJ wins convincingly just purely because Wilders skill set is so poor ... as for his talk ... people do talk s**t ... Ali on Frazier, Tyson on Lennox, Haye on Klitschko. What Im getting at is as much as he's a dislikeable human being and ducking the AJ fight scratch beneath all that bull and you may find the real reason this fight isn't happening ...

I just presumed he was another padded record American fighter intent on protecting the zero on his losses because for some reason to an American fighter its the end of the world if you are seen to be anything other than invincible so best solution is to not take on the best and just scream stuff to make it look like that isnt actually the case at all.
