parker should definitely fight the best guy willing to fill in ducking fury's date. then let wilder and he find the first mutually agreeable date.

Parker is food at this point. Anybody that easy to hit doesn't stand a chance against Wilder. Bring it on.

I'm sure Wilder knows this and sees that his resume fails to reflect the worlds best. America know all about boxing, their purists know when they got something to be excited about, and when they haven't. The yanks like us, look at the boxing ability and not the 30 fights for 30 KOs or the Windmills or the dancing around the ring with two black eyes.

We and other boxers see his boxing flaws. Some may see Wilders stalling to fight a top 10 other than Stiverne as an insecurity in his own abilities and by doing so, suggests he too is aware of the flaws that we see. Flaws that takes time to get right if Deontays able to do so. They were still there in his last fight and Washingtons team definitely did their homework as Gerald was winning the first few rounds.

So thats probably why Wilder is so cautious with his opponent selections. Povetkin did let him down but that doesn't mean to chuck the whole book of top 10 fighters in the air and say 'thats it, Im done' cos his championship hasn't started. He's got height and a knockout right hand but he's not really a convincing champion and thats his fault. The low profile and doubts of him are his fault and so he talks tough in attempts to erase any doubts and to raise his profile.

If the fight is scheduled on the July 29, that gives Parker 3 full months to train. Barring any serious damage in the fight on the 6th of may, it doesn't seem too unreasonable. Guys have had fights scheduled a lot closer together than that.

Make the fight and take the clowns trinket and then the big unification fight in the fall. Then we should have a true heavyweight champ! Should lol

He actually said he wants to fight Parker now. Yet apparently, now means several months later!

You know Wilder would never seriously get in the ring to fight Parker. He's had opportunities before to make this fight happen, yet continued to choose the path of least resistance.

Everyone knows Parker is genuinely willing to fight anyone, anytime, anywhere so long as it's within reason. The same cannot be said of Wilder who throughout his career has talked up big fights and unification, yet where are they?

37 fights with no sign of anyone credible, he has undeniably failed his fanboys, time and time again, failing to honour his word of giving them the big fights they have sorely craved.

I agree. But I think if Wilder's/his team's whole agenda is to get one big fight to cash-out ... or maybe cash-in, as he is dangerous with his power ... and as soon as that opportunity comes up - he takes it ie. Wlad/AJ winner. Then all the past maneuvering has some logic at least. If however he just keeps on trying to hold the belt hostage against Stiverne type opposition - that's a really bad thing for the sport. And all he really has are his belt, knockout highlights and his zero. With a loss (like was almost down for against Szpilka) it's a long way back. As you said ... boxing fans and even casual boxing fans, have a perception of what a 'champion' is, maybe based on the idea that once someone has that status they're part of the enduring historical context of the sport. IMO Wilder's not living up to that ... thus his support base is so limited.

Hughie Fury backing out is so lame because at his age, even a loss after a sound performance would not be all bad. Ruiz's stocks went up if anything after the Parker fight. Rudenko was a very good win but it's probably his best win, so really he's fortunate to get a shot on that. And if he caught Parker on a bad night and he had things run his way on the night ... a fight with Joshua in the UK would be mega. With 2016 Olympians going pro, Dubious, career threatening injuries always a possibility ... he'd be better off taking advantage of any opportunity like this when it was there ... coz it's not certain to come again. I guess he'll retain his ranking, so maybe they have some kind of idea of Parker fighting unification and losing and then he steps up. Who knows ????

Unless I've missed an announcement today, Parker doesn't have a May 6 opponent. He can fight a 2-week-notice sacrificial lamb or he can call off the May 6 date and fight a more lucrative unification against Wilder two months later.

He should work out a fight with Wilder and go for that.

That assumes Wilder is serious though. If he calls off May 6 and can't get Wilder, he's just wasted an opportunity to have a stay busy fight, get experience and make money from a home crowd. Then he's stuck in limbo until he either gets another stay busy fight, his mandatory situation gets worked out, or he fights AJ Wlad winner.

Either way, it would be a waste if Wilder doesn't play ball, and there's plenty of reason to suspect he or his team won't.
