Think to yourself what is that a pro fighter should do in a ring? What is his objective? What is his mission? Why is he there? To do what?

The point is to punch the other man as hard as you possibly can. To hit him so hard you separate him from consciousness. Or if that doesn't work, hit him so hard you break his body or spirit.

Deontay Wilder is much maligned for poor opposition and technique. Yet once in the ring he behaves exactly like a fighter should.

Ok. But... how much of that (him being effective) is because hes faced a whopping 2 legitimate top 10 type of opponents?

Anyone can appear effective when given the right opposition.

    I've always felt Wilder's career resembled Golovkin's.

While I do disagree, on the surface I can see where someone would see similarities to some extent.

If you dig deeper you'll see that Golovkin has had many more opportunities to fight top level fighters than Wilder.

Yet despite being a world champion 4 years longer than Wilder and having access to higher caliber fighters Golovkin only has three top fighters if you count Derevyanchenko as a top fighter, while Wilder has two.

Both KO artists, have records consisting of lower level world class fighters, both have controversial draws, with Wilder having a clearer defining win.

Gennady Golovkin comes to mind on this. But he has the right look for the job sort to speak. Go ahead and name all the "BEAST" he's slayed match it to Wilder's resume and tell me if the hype is warranted for him but not Wilder.

Let me ask you something first though. Is your second sentence alluding to Golovkins complexion compared to Wilders?

Happy new year Deontay. Sorry for bringing shame to you at the new years eve party. Regards to the bomb squad for how they handled the situation. Please give grandpa Ortiz his third fight in 2020.

Golovkins fought 3 top fighters, Wilder 2. Youre right.
But when you go a level below top tier, Golovkins fought 6 if not 7 top 10 fighters, Wilders fought 3.

Golovkin has far and away the better win between them (in my opinion.. and the majority of the boxing world), beating a primed out p4p Canelo in their first fight, at age 35. Wilder escaped with a draw, imo. The draws are non comparable to me. And thats not even factoring in that I rate Canelo as the higher quality opponent.

However, I will say that they are closer than I thought they would be at first glance.

Wilder is basically Stevenson, except he is a heavyweight not a light heavyweight. He has navigated through his division without having to fight the best guys, knocking out all the bums. In the process, he has paraded around saying he is the best, when he is clearly not even close. To be the best, you have to beat the best. In any other sport, they have playoffs right? What if the Lakers of this year said "we are the best team in the world" and refused to play in the NBA playoffs? Could they still say they are the best team? No. That's what Wilder has basically done for years now by refusing to fight Klitschko, Haye, Povetkin, Whyte, AJ and others. Yes he fought Ortiz and Fury (both of whom are drug cheats) but no one else of note. He has refused to fight more boxers in the top 20, than he has fought hahah.
