He scored two knockdowns in the first he was down in the second but came back and scored two knockdowns in the 4th before the fight was stopped. Glad to see he showed an ability to deal with adversity early in his career. Wonder what they do next here wonder if they keep him in with opponents who can make him work or if they feed him some tomato cans again?
Hopefully a good learning experience and a wake up call for Wilder. Hopefully it doesn't spook his handlers and they move him along. He doesn't need to fight 10 more guys that will lay down in the 1st rd.
That can be corrected with more weight training but not too much obviously. He could do well with putting on another 15 pounds id say
thing is i think he is just a hair too far away from cruiserweight and too lanky to add enough bulk to give him the strength. side note sconiers is a tough ****er. very little skills but makes it up with heart and strength. gave ruddock a real tough time.
hes only two inches taller than Lennox Lewis and after Lewis got knocked out earlier on in his career he bulked up by around 15 pounds or so and that extra weight helped him in his later career
Well, this isn't good at all. But he'll have learned from this, I hope. I wonder where Wilder goes from here? I remember mentioning Demetrice King the other day. Bad idea. No, he needs similar fights to the one he has just had. Durable, experienced opponents that are lacking skill are the order of the day. Preferably opponents that can punch a little.
People saying this "isn't good" are kidding themselves. Wilder has been fighting stiffs that lay down in the first round all the way up to now. He got in there with a tough son of a ***** and probably got cocky in there. He'll learn not to fight so open and get better from this.
That was a past-prime Ruddock though 9 years ago. Wilder really should not be getting knocked down at this stage of his career against guys like Sconiers. I hope it was only a flash knockdown. Anyway, others have said, there is no way a 6'7" guy should be as low as 215. He needs to add a good 25lbs. He looks too unbalanced & top-heavy to me like Khan used to at 135. Not saying that he's bulky in the upper-body, but if I saw him for the first time from the waist up and knew what his height was but not his weight, I'd guess he would be at least 230-235. His legs are ridiculously skinny, he needs to bulk those up a bit as it'll probably help him take shots and keep his balance, although obviously without compromising much on foot-speed. But yeah, at 6'7", he should really be looking to be at a healthy 240 something in my opinion.
Sconiers KO'd Andre Purlette a 40-3 guy before this fight But with a 17-22 record thats who he needs to face no more guys with less then 10 bouts who fall over he needs guys who can take him 4 rounds like last night and test the defense expose mistakes to his corner so they can work on them now rather than when he gets his first big fight on world TV and looks like a bum he needs more guys like this maybe not get KD'd but guys who will actually fight back and make him go rounds.
I am afraid Wilder's management are going to take him the Gerry Cooney route fight a bunch of stiffs and rack up some KO's then fight some aging vets get a big money title shot and then disappear.
