At HW Bowe probably shouldn't have got in. Most of their crappy picks are at the lower weight classes though.
So the worst real life HW boxer peer Wilder would have in the HoF would be...Riddick Bowe. They let some real dross heavyweights in huh.
I guess they are in for their contributions to boxing. Stalone through the Rocky movies, and Gatti for his trilogy with Ward. The trouble with using the Gatti standard in this case, is he won two of three fights against Ward. Wilder won zero fights against Fury. So Fury is the one who would logically enter rather than Wilder. The other issue is Wilder's "contribution" is bringing the sport into disripute with the whole Glove Gate Saga and what with Brealand getting death threats and basically Wilder saying the referee was corrupt in fight 2 (and hinting at it in fight 1). The guy has been a menace.
Well what does Bowe have? Golota who was beating Bowe up twice was KOd in 1 by Lewis who went 1-1 with Rahman who isn't even a top five win for Alexander Povetkin
Will Valuev get it? He has a similar amount of defences but has actually beat an ATG during that run. Even the other men he beat have world title wins agianst ATG's. Wilder has none of this.
Bowe was the only dude in the division who was able to dominate Holyfield in all 3 of their fights. No one else accomplished that. Bowe not only beat him in he 1st and 3rd fights, but arguably would've beaten him in the 2nd fight too had the fan man not shown up. If you can dominate a HOF like that, your also a HOF. Wilder by comparison doesn't have sheet other than a win over a past-prime Ortiz to put him in the HOF.
Wilder in the Hall of Fame? Based on where his resume is right now, I would say probably no. BUT, I do not really know if his career is over, or not. For all I now he may come back, avenge his loss, and get more wins. Then again, he may be done. I have no way of being sure.
The excuses Wilder made were among the worst seen in boxing history. However I think at this point it won’t be a surprise of his inclusion. 10 title defences and wins against Ortiz and a trilogy with Fury, I actually can’t see them not including him after some thought. Should he be in there is the main question, the answer to which I’m unsure on.
Deontay Wilder is getting in the IBHOF and you will all post angrily for a couple of days, then go on with the rest of your lives (hopefully).
Wilder won the WBC title from Stiverne, not a world class guy. And he defended it against middle level guys for quite a while and the WBC let him do it. He only fought Fury because he thought he was washed up. Got a draw and KO'd twice. Nothing to impress since then. BIG right hand but not a world class HOF GOAT kinda dude despite all the BOMB SQUAD yelling crap. Yeah he'll get in the HOF but it's about as meaningful as PFP.
That's a silly argument though. By that logic Brewster and Sanders belong in the hof. Bowe did very little outside the Holyfield trilogy. And Holyfield missed out on plenty of his contemporaries which certainly helped him avoid losses. Golota beat Bowe up does he get in?
