I watched Wilder vs Fury 2 again today. While Fury was battering him, he looked helpless.

 

Hagler was in control of his emotions. Which is one of the main attributes required for a high level boxer. They say boxing is all mental for a reason.

Hagler was extremely intelligent and self reflecting

Wilder is not.

There is more to Wilder than meets the eye but his flaws are pretty big.

Adrenaline, pre fight nerves etc etc even the best can sometimes get it...but to be on the brink of a panic attack is no good. Can't go into a fight like that.

Fury's "rage" here isn't actual rage. It's a controlled front, he can see right through Wilder's facade and knows a little pressure in the form of him shouting at him and looking physically intimidating will push him over the edge, which it did!

The beauty of boxing psychology is if you're nothing but your true self it will be exposed. People can see through it. You think Fury would shout off at Hagler? Hell no, waste of time.

Fury said it himself "This is not you, you're more a shy quiet type" which is why Wilder gets a little freaked out when someone "disrespects" him by smack talking, or even worse physically trying to intimidate him. How Ali got under Liston's skin a little.

Yes because Wilder's feminine style of getting hyper emotional and almost crying in arguments is really Hagler-esque.
