The ****? Nah I don’t think he was gassed. And this costume was some beading and a little flimsy mask. He looked nervous and tense to me. That can sap you as well…
I think it was a combination of things. I don't think the costume weighed him down and sapped him like the costume did in the 2nd fight, this time the costume was lighter, but I still think he made a mistake of doing a costume at all after what happened in the 2nd fight. But I think the bigger problem here was that he was stressing over the gloves, which caused a delay. Notice how they didn't show any pre-fight scenes of Wilder's dressing room showing Wilder warming up. It was only shots of Fury shadow boxing in his dressing room looking ready. All that time, Wilder was testing gloves, trying on different gloves, then eventually switching gloves completely at the last second. This kind of stress over the gloves had to effect his focus and energy. It's poor management to not have the glove situation taken care of beforehand. The fact that Wilder was unhappy with the gloves he was provided and kept trying on different gloves when he should have been hitting the mits and preparing himself is disappointing.
Always have respected Wilder's heart, but tonight he took it to another level. He took crazy punishment but refused to wilt. Dont know if anyone has mentioned it, but Wilder was about to get up when the ref stopped the fight, I'm glad the ref did stop it but I'm telling you guys Wilder was getting up. WOW!!! Dont want to ever hear in this forum that WIlder cant take a shot, cause he took plenty tonight and through determination was giving shots of his own. Props to Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury as well as when he got dropped during the fight, it looked like to me he was about to wilt from Wilder's power but he sucked it up.
The Stress part I can buy plus I think he looked nervous. Stress and nerves will sap your energy. I wouldn’t say he was gassed but combine stress / nervous energy with loading up on every punch……. That will definitely deplete your gas tank.
Fury has a much better chin than Wilder does and he has much better stamina than Wilder. That said, Wilder is a bigger puncher than Fury so that evens out and creates the kind of fireworks we saw tonight. Wilder was rubbery legged for most of the fight, he took shots but they clearly affecfted him, slowed him down and he became more and more lethargic the more big shots he took. This is the Heavyweight division though, for him to go 11 rounds the way he did does prove he can withstand a ton of punishment and never quit. But as to his ability to take a shot, I think he's far more chinny than Fury, Joshua, Ruiz or Usyk.
Joshua would not have got up from any of those three knockdowns Wilder suffered last night and in all probability would have gone down from other heavy shots that Wilder managed to take from Fury during the fight. Joshua just does not have it in him to dog it out in a fight !
Heart, no. Pride, yes. Wilder got off the canvas because he had to. He made so many excuses there was no other option. What about Fury? Isn't Wilder meant to be the 'most devastating puncher in history'. Where are Fury's 10 threads claiming he has the heart of a lion? Wilder lost all brownie points when he didn't have the heart to man up and admit Fury was the better man. As my old man always said, those that bark the loudest often have a heart the size of a pea. Wilder is no different.
I'll give him that. He took a beating and had to be face planted for the ref to stop it. For all his flaws which there are a multitude, he at least has a heart of a fighter in the ring. Shame he couldn't show that when negotiating fights, he might then have a half decent resume.
This is a pathetic post. How can anybody watch that fight and come out with "Wilder has a heart the size of a pea"? Your arbitrary distinction between "heart" and "pride" is laughable. Give Wilder his dues, prat.
