I’m a fan of Wilder but Joe Louis knocks out Wilder early. Wilder is susceptible to the right hand, and doesn’t know how to clinch when he gets hurt....louis would stun him with the right after he gets under the jab, then finish him off with a combo.

Imagine Deontay with Joe's punching technique. That would be the most devastating combination ever.

Good for Wilder. Nothing wrong with a little blustery bravado.

Imagine Wlad with his brother's chin, Willie Pep's defence and Calzaghe's workrate ... since we're creating fantasy boxers.

Boxers get better with every passing era. As much as it pains me to say this, modern super heavyweights like Deontay Wilder would demolish the likes of Joe Louis with ease.

Wilder is serious! He wants to dig Joe Louis' grave up and fight him now........................well, that'd be better than many of his opponents.................

You used the already careworn cliché "in before..." separated from the pejorative "hipsters" by only three words?
Irony, thy screen name is ellerebe.

No one, absolutely no one, has said Wilder has no chance. He has no probable chance. You "boxing has evolved" guys are the Dunning-Kruger effect personified. You lean heavily on unstated assumptions that you're not even aware you're making.

Well of course he would knock out Joe Louis. The problem is so would Louis Ortiz or Dillian Whyte. Or any other decent HW of today's era. So this isn't really saying much.

Please, do explain your reasoning behind this.

Broadly speaking, and in general, I might agree with that. At least in terms of the fact that general knowledge of both physical development and specific boxing knowledge is more readily available than in times past.

However, if you actually look at the footage, Louis was leaps and bounds ahead of most of his competition. He was, to my eyes, a "modern heavyweight".

Wilder in my opinion is the Max Baer of his times. He's also not a SHW by definition, since he weighs in at around 215-220lb. He's a full HW, sure, but Louis himself was about 210lb. Hardly a massive difference.

If you compare them stylistically, Louis was technically excellent and he applied this to great effect. If he put in a bad performance, it's highlighted because he almost never put in bad performances. Wilder on the other hand, looks beatable in every other fight. I have no doubt as to who would win between these two.

    Oh, very well.

What's the point of all these great emotes if we never use them?

"At least in terms of the fact that general knowledge of both physical development and specific boxing knowledge is more readily available than in times past."

How is that anything that faintly resembles a fact? I hear plenty of bro science, but almost no actual science.

Ummmm. Well, I'm pretty sure the Internet never existed in the 1930's.

I'd use them more often, but believe it or not I usually can't find one that really fits. Most of them are just filler.
