This was the Ken Norton fight. Both are huge, powerful fighters with poor technique and less than world class chins. No offense...Cooney was not the joke he became. But he was handled badly, and the same mistakes are being made with Wilder by throwing him in with shot fighters that he can roll over. He should be in there with tough, durable veterans who will help him build up his stamina and durability. In any event, congratulations. Wilder rolls on and a good knockout win against an ex-champ is a good knockout win against an ex-champ. Otherwise, it has been a terrible year for heavyweight boxing. Vitali is holding a belt hostage, Wlad is fighting unqualified bums, Solis has no interest in being a professional fighter, Haye seems to be angling for a payday, Arreola is coming off of yet another loss, Thompson is over 40, Price, Glazkov, and Malik Scott have all gone off the rails, Helenius is never going to be the same, Chambers moved down and lost to a nobody, Adamek is being kept alive only by bad decision, and when it looked like Bogdan Dinu had finally found a way to get some fights in it turned out that they are not being counted as professional fights. And on that note, does anyone know if the AIBA pro league is going to count, because if not, then thanks for taking Camerelle and Tervel Pulev away from us.
Its too early to judge either way. Even the detractors, what can they really say? Nobody has seen enough of him to judge him properly. But, the fight is coming soon when the fighter he punches isn't going to fall over, but take it and keep coming at him. That's when we will find out how good Wilder really is.
This. It's just pointless to label a fighter before he's been truly tested. But personally, i'm excited to see an exciting hw like him. I will be tuning in for sure.
