By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight Deontay Wilder (27-0, 27 KO’s) took another step towards an eventual world title shot on Saturday night with an easy 2nd round stoppage of Matthew Greer (15-9, 13 KO’s) at the Centro de Convenciones In Villa Hermosa, Tabasco, Mexico.

Wilder knocked Greer down three times in the fight before the slaughter was finally stopped by referee Jesus Manuel Erosa at 1:16 of the round. Wilder had Greer down pretty much each time he landed one of his huge right hand bombs in the fight. All three knockdowns came in the 2nd round from devastating right hands. In the opening round, Deontay used mainly his jab and left hook until the last 15 seconds of the round when he finally opened up with a flurry of shots.

It was incredible to watch the power that the man had in his right hand. Those shots would have knocked out any heavyweight in the division. I have new respect for Greer after watching him take those shots and get up from them each time.

With this knockout victory, Wilder is only 18 knockouts away from breaking the boxing record for the longest knockout streak for a heavyweight. The record is held by Lamar Clark with 44. Wilder can easily break that record if he keeps destroying his opponents like he did tonight.

 

If his next opponent has a pulse, it probably means they just reanimated the guy.

 

Absolutely. Sauerland, K2 Promotions, anything would be better than what he's got going for him now.

When does his contract run out?

If that happens then I'll be straight on here issuing a public apology for every bad word I ever said about him. But, until that happens, until he shows signs of moving up and away from his bum fighting days I will continue to regard him as a joke of a boxer making his name knocking out nobodies.

 

Not really. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if he got chinned by a John McDermott type either. The man's just a big question mark, and shouldn't really have anything projected on him regarding his future.

 

Price would KO Wilder, so would Haye, Povetkin, Helenius, Pulev, Wach, Arreola, Charr, Fury, etc. How can you argue otherwise? At least these guys don't only fight nobodies.................
