Deontay Wilder: Joshua only fought D level opposition

I agree 100% with Wilder.

Joshua's opponents have all been complete garbage and it's absurd for a world champion. Whyte, Breazeale, and Martin were worse than even Molina.

Wilder's opponents haven't been all-stars, but they've been much better. Duhaupas and Szpilka were good, reasonable opposition for a world champion. Molina wasn't good enough, and Arreola was way below acceptable, but oh well. Wilder still has better wins.

 

AJ's opposition just garbage, but so was Wilder's. None of their opposition was a top 10 HW fighter, outside of Wilder's title win vs. Stiverne.

 

I wouldn't call that opposition respectable. Cherry picking the easiest title holder is what it is. We are talking about AJ here don't deflect and if you can't admit AJ is buying some time for some development then you're full of ****. You claim to be aware of boxing politics so you should know what Eddie Hearn is doing.

 

That's right. Wilder is ahead resume-wise but not by much, and to be honest he has no right to criticize anyone about D-level opposition.

If AJ does fight and beat Klitschko his resume overtakes Wilder's straightaway.

 

Stiverne was a #2 ranked HW.

If he beats Povetkin next year , Wilder will have beaten a #2 and #1 ranked HW.

Nobody Vitali beat were ever ranked that highly. The highest ranking guy Vitali beat was Sanders who was ranked #3 and Sanders isn't a great win. Especially the version Vitali beat.

 

Wilder is right. Only thing is both are contenders, not champions.

if that's true then I would keep my mouth shut if I was Wilder, plus Wilders overall time table sucks compared to AJs.

just my two cents, I admit I became frustrated with Wilder the last year and half, still think highly of his overall skills in the ring and want to see him face the top guys.

 

This is precisely what I thought. Isn't Wilder the guy who had the opportunity to fight Povetkin, only to then duck Povetkin and try to sue him?

Unless Wilder demands -- and receives -- silly money to come to the U.K, I highly doubt Wilder has the bottle to come and fight Joshua in the U.K. It'll most likely be in New York or Las Vegas, on a PBC card, with a PBC referee and PBC judges. Darleys Perez knows how that particular arrangement works out.

 

Stivern was a squared up punching bag with no game plan. He would have been a Holmes sparring partner yrs ago.

 

What do you call Wilders then? Has there every been such a regarded HW prospect who was coddled as much as Wilder was early on? This thread is in regards to Wilders criticism of AJ's competition(So critiquing Wilder and calling him out on his hypocrisy is by no means deflection). Wilders as champion is hardly better and he's been champ for a year longer than Joshua. Joshuas opposition as champion so far isn't anything to write home about you're right, but Wilders not in position to call him out on that... Since it would make him a hypocrite. Pot meet keetle. I give Joshua a bit of slack because he's moved up the pro ranks far quicker and more respectfully than Wilder.

 

Joshua wasn't world champion when he faced Whyte. Wilders opposition is only a hair better, but he has more defenses and has been champion for a year longer. Also unlike Wilder, Joshua gives his opponents adequate time to prepare. What Wilder and his team have done should earn them flack from any knowledgeable boxing fan. I'll go out on a limb and say that by the end of 2017 Joshua will have partaken in fights that set him up to leap frog Wilder by a considerable margin.

 

Joshua is lined up to fight Klitschko, ain't he? Wilder needs to fight Povetkin upon his return since he's opening his mouth.
