Yes. That's a different Luis Ortiz (Luis Ortiz Flores, b. 1965). That Luis Ortiz did actually try the pros but suffered an early loss and didn't get far.

Stiverne seems to refer to the Wilder-Ortiz rumours:

Well if its not true Wilder will take a even bigger beating then he was previously and I will be right there leading the way, lol

I've just never had positive Wilder news and I'm running with it I admit.

    Hahaha.

I do think he is older than he claims to be, look at his face. And if he isn't lying when he said he fought Whitaker, late forties.

    Ugh.

    We better not hear:

"I WANTED to face Ortiz but I had to face my mandatory Stiverne!"

Other boxers could get away with that, but for Wilder it would just be too convenient.

So basically he says two things which contradict, you believe one and I lean towards the other. I hope you are right and he has more good years ahead of him.

He just looks older than 38 to me.

Dear Jeff, O' Lord of boxing; I pray to thee please use your infinite wisdom and unrelenting will to guide these fighters to the ring unburdened by injury or accusations of substance scofflawery. Amen.

Ortiz is old and unknown. I fear that Wilders first good opponent here won't get him a lot of credit with the casual audience.

Why not? George Foreman and Tony Thompson did pretty well in their mid 40s.

If he faced Pernell Whitaker in the amateurs, that would be pretty solid evidence Ortiz is older. As KiwiMan pointed out.

But evidence for that is this supposed interview we haven't seen...

True but that's Wilders fault for taking this long to step up to Ortiz level.

Well not his fault but its on him as much as anybody.

To be considered the best you still have to fight the best.

    Well imo, lol

    I'd be pick Ortiz.

Borderline stunned this could be happening. I guess respect to Wilder (finally) if it happens.
