Ortiz, and Povetkin for that matter, are indeed old.

It would still be very impressive and ballsy for Wilder to take on Ortiz.

Holy effing ****! This would be a GREAT fight. If it happens Wilder deserves a TON of credit, and I certainly take back all the criticism I've been giving him for turning down Whyte and not doing anything for a few months. This is EXACTLY the type of fight that needs to happen. If he wins, he can go into an AJ unification as a near equal participant(60 40), both in respect and money. Even though Ortiz isn't a draw, they'd promote the heck out of this and I think it will get good numbers. Same with Ortiz if he wins.

I think Wilder wins it, with the official odds probably making him a very slight favorite and the forum making him a huge underdog, but the fight could definitely go either way.

Maybe Deonkey saw he couldn't put away Scuba and forgot he dived vs him.

I'm skeptical about this fight but if it does happen then Wilder deserves credit for finally taking on a tough opponent.

Anyone who tries to discredit Wilder or Ortiz if Wilder beats him is a flat out hater and wouldn't give Wilder credit if he went 50 and 0 with wins over Wlad and Fury.

This is all very strange. Wilder is on record saying he won't ever face a ped user. Now a change of heart? Looks bad like he really ducked Povetkin if he takes this fight.
Then you have the WBC grant him 5 voluntaries and when Stiverne finally gets his mando he agrees to step aside. After he failed a ped test but was not penalised as harshly as Povetkin and maintained his WBC 1 ranking without having to fight a final eliminator.
Add in Wilder turned down Whyte (an easier fight imo) with a big payday from a country whose fans are hot right now in the sport. To fight Ortiz with much less buzz.
Wilder's whole career to me sets off red flags. But Ortiz is a top 10 heavyweight and being that Wilder will be 32 years old it's about time he faces some live competition.

Maybe you're just a hater. Scott was winning against Chisora before doing basically the same thing. You don't have any proof anyways just smelly ******* breath comments.

Wilder is on record going with his promoter Dibella's comments, and it was in the context of the extreme short notice, not ever. You're showing a lack of reading comprehension and wishful thinking. This is why idiots believe fake news.

You sound like an apologist. Wilder will be 32 years old in October with one top ten fight under his belt. Those are the facts.
Now you're reading into interpretations of what Dibella actually meant and what Wilder co-signed. Stop being a fanboy.

Yeah, but Ortiz deserves to be mandatory about 100 times more than Stiverne does.

If this is true then respect to Wilder for taking it. I think Wilder can do it, but it's a dangerous fight. He will be putting himself in a great position for unification fights in the future if he does get past Ortiz. I hope Wilder gets the win.

The thing is, if he and Pernell were the same age, then I find it hard to believe that they were even close to being the same size. At eighteen Ortiz was probably 180 or better.

No, the idea would be Ortiz was much younger and not fully grown.
